Brewers Score First Win Of 2024

Four different players score multiple goals

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team got into the win column for the first time in 2024 Tuesday evening with a 14-6 non-conference victory over visiting Farmingdale State. Four different players finished with at least two goals in the contest, led by hat tricks from First Years Maeve Faigel (North Andover, MA) and Sigrid Fredlund (Seattle, WA).
 
Tuesday's victory moves Vassar to 1-1 overall in the early going of the 2024 season, while Farmingdale State falls to 0-2.
 
How It Happened
  • Lola Wright (Palisades, NY) opened the scoring in the game with 11:30 left in the first frame to give the Brewers the early one goal advantage.
  • Farmingdale State responded with two straight tallies, including a player-up marker from Jordyn Neu with 3:39 left in the period, to give the Rams their only lead of the contest.
  • Vassar answered with three straight goals in the final 3:01 of the first quarter, including Faigel's first of the game with five seconds left, to take a 4-2 advantage through 15 minutes.
  • Megan Diamond scored for the second time in the game for Farmingdale State to open the second period scoring to cut the visitor's disadvantage to 4-3.
  • Vassar responded with markers from Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) and Natalie Daigle (Warwick, NY) to close out the first half scoring and send the Brewers to the intermission with a 6-3 advantage.
  • The Brewers doubled up the Rams in shots prior to the break, 18-9.
  • First half groundballs went to the visitors, 9-2.
  • Draw controls over the first 30 minutes were even at five per side.
  • The Brewers surged in front 10-3 with the first four goals of the third period.
  • Fredlund opened the second half scoring off a freed from Emma Torkelson (Madison, NJ) 4:57 into the third frame.
  • Fredlund completed the hat trick just over a minute later to give the Brewers an 8-3 advantage.
  • Wright and Faigel closed out the run with unassisted tallies to give Vassar a seven-goal cushion with 4:35 left in the third quarter.
  • Farmingdale State climbed to within 11-5 with a 2-1 scoring run, but Vassar closed the contest with three of the final four tallies of the night.
  • Faigel completed a second hat trick to start the season with 10:57 left to play.
  • Siena Wong (Scotts Valley, CA) added two straight goals, the first two goals of her career, to finish off the Brewers' scoring in the contest.
 
For The Brewers
  • Faigel finished the victory with three goals to go along with a groundball and a draw control.
  • Fredlund completed a hat trick that included the game winning goal while adding a team-high three draw controls.
  • Wright finished a three-point night with two goals and an assist. Wright finished the victory with two groundballs and two draw controls.
  • Wong posted a pair of goals.
  • Amelia Poirier (Atherton, CA) posted two points, scoring once and assisting on a goal, to go along with a pair of draws and a caused turnover.
  • Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) chipped in a goal and an assist.
  • Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA earned the win in goal with five saves in three quarters.
  • Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) took the net in the fourth period and turn aside three shots.
 
For The Rams
  • Diamond finished a strong night with a hat trick and five points, adding a game-high five draw controls.
  • Carly Livingston scored once and assisted on two goals.
  • Olivia Cassese picked up three groundballs and posted a draw and a caused turnover.
  • Ronnie Reilly made four saves in the first half of the contest.
  • Giavanna Stamatelo came on in the second half and posted five stops.

  • Vassar finished with a 31-21 advantage in shots, including a 23-14 edge in shots on goal.
