Women’s Lacrosse Edged At Drew

Trio of Brewers net hat tricks

Madison, NJ – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2024 season with a hard fought 18-14 road loss at Drew Saturday afternoon. Three Brewers scored hat tricks in the game, including First Year Maeve Faigel (North Andover, MA).
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 0-1 to start the year, while Drew improves to 1-2 through the first three contests of its season.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the scoring with the first two goals, getting tallies from Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) and Faigel to grab a 2-0 advantage just 3:50 into the contest.
  • Drew answered back with three of the next four goals to knot the score at 3-3 on an Emma DiPatri marker at the 6:08 mark of the opening period.
  • The Brewers closed the first quarter with the final three goals, including a player-up goal from First Year Sigrid Fredlund (Seattle, WA) to head into the second quarter with a 6-3 lead.
  • Drew outscored Vassar 6-3 in the second stanza, notching the first five goals of the period to open an 8-6 lead with 7:09 left before halftime.
  • Vassar stopped the run with back-to-back goals from Emma Torkelson (Madison, NJ) and Faigel to knot the score at 8-8 with just shy of four minutes left before halftime.
  • The two sides traded goals over the final 2:39 of the half with Vassar getting a player-up goal from Fredlund with 1:53 left in the second quarter to send the two teams into the break deadlocked at 9-9.
  • Vassar finished the first half with a 21-19 edge in shots and a 14-6 edge in draw controls.
  • The Brewers and Rangers traded two goal runs to open the third period before Drew got markers from Mary Kate Davidson and DoPatri to break an 11-11 tie.
  • Vassar would knot the score at 14-14 on goals from Billings and First Year Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA), but would not be able to pull in front again in the game.
  • The Rangers scored the final four goals of the game over the last 6:00 of play, getting the eventual game winner from Grace Patane.
 
For The Brewers
  • Faigel finished the contest with three goals and a draw control.
  • Billings tallied three times and caused a turnover for the Brewers.
  • Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) scored a hat trick, going 2-for-3 in free-position chances.
  • Lola Wright (Palisades, NY) assisted on a pair of goals for Vassar and won six draw controls
  • Natalie Daigle (Warwick, NY) picked up a team-high four groundballs, adding a caused turnover and a draw control.
  • DiLiberto led the team with seven draws and added two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Fredlund scored twice and won five draws.
  • Torkelson closed the day with a goal, assist, two groundballs and two draws.
  • Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) finished the day with 16 saves in goal.
 
For The Rangers
  • Lizzy Barrett led the scoring attack with four goals and five points, adding three draw controls.
  • Ella Champigny finished with four tallies, two groundballs and two draws.
  • DiPatri totaled four points, including three goals.
  • Paige Shaw earned the win in goal with 13 saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Drew finished the game with a 43-35 advantage in shots, including a 34-27 edge in shots on goal.
  • Groundballs went to the Rangers, 19-16.
  • Vassar held a 22-13 advantage in draw controls.
  • The Brewers closed the game 12-for-17 in clears.
