#10 Men's Volleyball Earns Three-Set Victory Over #14 NYU

Brewers score second conference win of the season

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The #10 Vassar College Men's Volleyball team opened a four-game homestand on Wednesday evening as the Brewers coasted to their second conference victory of the season with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-13 triumph over #14 NYU. Vassar improves to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play while the Violets fall to 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in UVC action.

FIRST SET
  • Senior AJ Erickson opened the set with two straight service aces followed by a kill from senior Jacob Kim and a block from sophomore Tristan Christofferson and junior Payne Lounsbery to earn a 4-1 lead.
  • NYU took its first lead at 5-4 on a winner from Emerson Evans before Vassar regained its lead at 14-10 on an ace from junior Billy Fan.
  • Luke Boyer's kill cut the lead to 18-16 before the Brewers rattled six straight points to close the first set.
  • Fan landed four service aces along with a kill each from Christofferson and Kim to earn the opening set victory.
SECOND SET
  • The Violets took a 6-3 lead in the early stages of the set as Lucas Osiecki and Jeremy Li each tallied aces along with a kill from Ry Kagan.
  • Vassar recorded eight of the next nine points to push ahead 11-7 after two aces from Lounsbery and two kills from junior Gavin Akoto.
  • NYU got within one at 12-11 following three straight winners from Osiecki before Vassar battled back to a three-point lead on a winner each from Lounsbery and Fan.
  • The Violets trimmed the advantage down to one at 24-23 after a kill from Boyer before Lounsbery buried a winner to clinch the second set.
THIRD SET
  • Following Kagan's kill to begin the third set, Fan landed two more aces along with Kim adding two kills to take a 4-1 lead.
  • Three straight winners from Christofferson put the Brewers up 12-6 until NYU got within five on a kill from Buddy Cohen.
  • Vassar used a five point run, led by two blocks from senior Vaughn Ramsey and a kill each from Ramsey, Christofferson and Fan.
  • The Brewers completed the sweep following a NYU service error to take the third set 25-13.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Kim tallied a match-high nine kills along with 16 assists while Ramsey buried eight winners (.615) and recorded two solo blocks.
  • Christofferson finished with eight winners and two blocks along with Fan registered six kills, six aces and five digs.
  • Akoto added five kills and Lounsbery finished with five winners, three aces, two blocks and six digs.
  • Erickson tallied 19 assists, two aces and three digs while first year Tucker Shearn lifted a match-high nine digs.
FOR THE VIOLETS
  • Osiecki and Boyer each recorded six kills and six digs while Kagan added six winners and four blocks.
  • Evans and Cohen each had four kills while Evans recorded six digs.
  • Devyn Nguyen handed out a match-best 22 assists and lifted a team-best seven digs.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will play host to non-conference foe Buffalo State on Friday evening at Kenyon Hall.
  • The Violets travel to take on Arcadia on Saturday.
