#10 Men's Volleyball Rolls to Sweep Over Buffalo State

Brewers take on Elmira and Hobart tomorrow afternoon

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The #10 Vassar College Men's Volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight victory on Friday night as the Brewers swept Buffalo State 25-18, 26-24, 25-20 in non-conference action at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers improve to 13-3 on the season while the Bengals fall to 6-8 overall.

FIRST SET
  • Vassar opened the first set with a 5-3 lead on two kills from senior Jacob Kim and one from junior Billy Fan.
  • A five point run, led by two winners from senior Vaughn Ramsey and Fan along with a kill from junior Gavin Akoto.
  • Buffalo State cut the lead down to four at 17-13 after two kills and one ace from Jake Woelfel.
  • The Brewers took the opening set on an ace from Fan, a kill from sophomore Tristan Christofferson and a block from Ramsey and Christofferson.
SECOND SET
  • Vassar raced out to a 5-2 advantage as Akoto and Kim each buried a winner along with Akoto and junior Payne Lounsbery combined for a block.
  • A triple block from Kim, senior Andrew Guaragno and first year Armaan Desai extended the lead to 11-7 before the Bengals drew even at 11 after an ace from Gavin Wilczewski and two kills from Woelfel.
  • Buffalo State took its first lead at 16-15 on a kill from Jackson Stang and a Kaden Strong winner extended the lead to two.
  • Vassar battled back to go ahead 21-19 on a block from Kim and Desai before the Bengals scored three straight to go up 22-21.
  • A double block from Strong and Woelfel tied the set at 24 all before back-to-back winners from Kim gave the Brewers a second set victory.
THIRD SET
  • Wilczewski's ace put the Bengals ahead 3-2 until Vassar used four straight points, led by three Ramsey kills, to go ahead 9-6.
  • Guaragno's kill put Vassar ahead 13-10 before the Bengals got within one on a kill from Chris Laboy.
  • A kill from sophomore Cannon Tucker along with an ace from Fan pushed the Brewers ahead 22-17.
  • Vassar used kills from sophomore James Zuckerman, Tucker and Desai to clinch the sweep.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Ramsey finished with eight kills and three blocks while Kim put together a strong night with eight kills, 10 assists, two blocks and two digs.
  • Tucker buried six winners along with Fan registering five kills, two aces and five digs.
  • Christofferson tallied five kills while Akoto added three kills and three blocks.
  • Senior AJ Erickson handed out a team-high 17 assists and first year Tucker Shearn lifted a match-high seven digs.
FOR THE BENGALS
  • Woelfel finished with a match-high 12 kills and added three blocks while Strong registered five kills and three blocks.
  • Laboy tallied four winners and two blocks along with Stang recording three kills, 20 assists and nine digs.
  • Wilczewski finished with three kills, four aces and six digs while Alex Neuz lifted seven digs.

  • Vassar squares off with UVC foes Elmira and Hobart tomorrow at Kenyon Hall beginning at 12:00 p.m.
  • Buffalo State travels to Bard for a tri-match with the Raptors and Purchase.
