Vassar Cruises Past RIT; Clinches Top Seed In Liberty League Championship

Six Brewers finish with a point in regular season finale

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming Liberty League Championship on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 5-1 victory over RIT in the regular season finale. Six different Brewers finished with a point, including Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) who posted a pair of goals and an assist.
 
Saturday's result closes Vassar's regular season with an 11-3-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark against league rivals. By virtue of Hobart's and St. Lawrence's draw, Vassar finishes a single point ahead of the Saints in the league standings.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the game up in the first half with three straight goals separated by just under 10 minutes.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) broke the ice in the 20th minute when he buried a feed from Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) at the 19:54 mark for what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • The lead grew to 2-0 at the 26:29 mark when Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL) started a corner kick that Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) drove home.
  • The barrage continued at the 29:36 mark when Keker potted his first of the game off Tobolski's second helper of the game to push the Brewers in front 3-0.
  • RIT would get on the board with its only tally of the game late in the first frame when Selorm Dake deposited a rebound at 37:36 to make the score 3-1 heading into halftime.
  • Vassar outshot RIT 13-5 in the first half and took three of the four corner kicks over the opening 45 minutes.
  • Joshua Lee (Bethlehem, PA) deposited his third goal of the season at the 69:13 mark, hitting an open net off a feed from Keker to move the lead to 4-1.
  • Keker rounded out a big day with his second goal of the game, taking a long pass from Mejia in stride and scoring the final goal of the game at 75:13.
  • Vassar did not allow a shot in the second half, outshooting the Tigers 10-0.
  • The Brewers finished the second half with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Keker scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season and pushed his season point total to 17 following Saturday's five-point performance.
  • Tobolski recorded his third and fourth helpers of the year and moved his team leading point total to 24.
  • Mejia scored his second goal of the season, picking up his first game winning goal, and moved into the team lead in assists with six, moving his season point total to 10.
  • Fiske found the back of the net for the sixth time in 2024 and stands in third-place on the team with 15 points.
  • Lee potted his third goal of the year for the Brewers.
  • Tekin helped on his second goal of the season.
  • Keker led the team with eight shots, putting four on target.
  • Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) registered three attempts, putting two on frame.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) earned the win in goal without making a save.
  • Patrick Gale (San Antonio, TX) made his second appearance of the season, playing the final 9:19 in net.
 
For The Tigers
  • Dake scored his second goal of the campaign.
  • Roman Mironenko posted his first point of the season with the helper on the Dake tally.
  • Idriss Diallo led the Tigers with two shots.
  • Jason Trapp suffered the loss in goal, making seven saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar held a wide 23-5 margin in shots, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers dominated corner kicks 10-4.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar will host a semifinal round game in the Liberty League Championship on Friday with an opponent and time to be announced.
