Brewers Edge RIT; Advance To Liberty League Championship Final

Fiske, Keker tally for Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY – Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) and Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) scored just over six minutes apart in the first half and that was all the scoring the top-seeded Vassar College Men's Soccer team needed in a 2-1 Liberty League Semifinal victory over RIT Friday afternoon. Keker finished the day with three points to lead the Brewers.
 
Vassar improves to 12-3-2 overall with the victory and advances to the Liberty League Championship Final on Sunday when it will play host to St. Lawrence. Friday's victory was the fourth straight for Vassar over RIT and gives the Brewers their most wins in a season since winning 14 times in 2016. Sunday will mark the Brewers first appearance in the Championship Final since 2017.  
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar found itself trailing in the early going on Friday following the opening goal from RIT in the sixth minute.
  • Selorm Sake played a ball from the left wing that found Da'Vid Robinson who deposited his second goal of the season at 5:24 to give the Tigers and early 1-0 lead.
  • Just under 10 minutes later, Vassar evened the score at 1-1 on Fiske's seventh goal of the campaign.
  • Keker started the play with a shot off the post and Fiske found the rebound and buried it at 15:04 to even the scoring.
  • In the 22nd minute Keker tallied what proved to be the game winning goal to give Vassar the final 2-1 advantage.
  • Otis Wildman (Tampa, FL) played a ball to Keker inside the box and the senior forward found the back of the net for the seventh time this season at 21:29 to push the Brewers in front for good in the game.
  • Vassar finished the opening 45 minutes with an 11-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers doubled up the Tigers in first half corner kicks, 4-2.
  • Vassar goalkeeper Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) kept RIT off the board in the second half with a pair of saves.
  • Vassar outshot RIT 6-5 after halftime and saw shots from Keker and Wildman in the final 10 minutes just miss the mark.
  • RIT closed the second half with a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
For The Brewers
  • Keker rounded out a big day with a goal and an assist. Keker stands in second place on the team in points (20), tied for second in goals (7) and tied for the team lead in assists (6).
  • Fiske joins Keker with seven goals on the season and ranks third on the team with 17 points.
  • Wildman picked up his first assist of the season and pushes his season point total to three.
  • Keker led the team with four shots.
  • Jackson Hall (Washington, DC) and Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) each posted three attempts with Hall putting two shots on frame.
  • Raphan closed the victory with a pair of saves and is now working to a 1.15 goals against average and a .710 save percentage.
 
For The Tigers
  • Robinson scored the second time in 2024 and led the team with two shots in the game.
  • Dake recorded his second assist of the year and pushed his team leading point total to eight.
  • Jason Trapp suffered the loss in goal with two saves for the Tigers.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot RIT 17-7 overall, but held just a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a slim 5-3 margin.
  • Fouls went against RIT in the game, 10-9.
 
What's Next
  • The top two seeds in the Liberty League bracket will square-off on Sunday when St. Lawrence and Vassar kick-off at 1:30 p.m.
