Tova Gelb (Sharon, MA) led all players in the game with 20 points for the Brewers.
Vassar slips to 3-1 overall on the season and sees an impressive string of 23 consecutive home wins stopped and is now 26-4 in its last 30 home tilts. Trinity (CT) is unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0.
First Half
- The Bantams never trailed on Tuesday with Vassar pulling even just three times in the game.
- After a pair of Gelb free-throws in the early going tied the score at 4-4, Trinity took the lead for good in the opening 20 minutes on an Olivia Vick three-pointer.
- The Brewers pulled to within a single point three times after the Vick triple, but a Kiki Fossbender bucket in the final half minute of the opening quarter gave the Bantams a 16-13 lead through 10 minutes.
- Vassar went 5-for-20 from the floor in the first quarter and hit on just one of its six three-point attempts.
- Trinity converted at an even 50-percent in the opening period and knocked in a pair of three-pointers.
- The Bantams opened the second frame on a 10-2 spurt to open a 26-15 lead with 4:52 left before halftime.
- Vassar pulled to within four on two occasions, both on Gelb conversions, late in the second quarter, but Trinity went into the break on a 6-2 run.
- Trinity got a Vick bucket in the closing seconds of the quarter to push it in front 34-26 heading into the break.
- Trinity cooled to 35.7-percent shooting in the second quarter, but went into halftime converting at 42.3-percent overall, including a 3-for-7 effort from three-point range.
- Vassar shot just 29.7-percent over the opening 20 minutes and hit on just one of its nine three-point attempts.
- Trinity outscored Vassar 9-3 from the charity stripe before halftime.
- Gelb led all scorers with 13 points in the first half, going 5-for-11 from the floor.
- Vick paced Trinity with nine first half points, going 3-for-6 from the field with a triple.
Second Half
- Trinity pushed its lead to a game-high 13 points twice in the early stages of the third quarter, including on a Vick jumper that made the score 41-28.
- The Bantams would not allow the Brewers closer than six points the rest of the frame.
- Gelb connected on a jumper with six seconds left in the quarter to bring the Brewers to within 51-45 with 10 minutes left to play.
- Trinity went 7-for-15 with a pair of three-pointers in the third period.
- Vassar also went 7-for-15 from the floor in the quarter, but just 1-for-5 from three-point range.
- The Brewers scored the first six points of the final stanza with a Tash Thompson (Los Altos, CA) lay-in at the 8:21 mark knotting the score at 51-51.
- Trinity responded with seven of the next eight points to pull back in front 58-52 on a Vick jumper with 6:08 left in the game.
- The Brewers rallied once more with a 10-4 stretch, keyed by seven points from Julia Harvey (Delmar, NY), to knot the score at 62-62 with 3:37 left.
- Trinity answered with the next four points to take the lead for good in the game and scored the final nine points of the contest to close out the 12-point victory.
- Trinity scored 24 points in the final frame and shot 57.1-percent from the floor.
- The Bantams shot 51.7-percent after halftime and knocked down three triples.
- The Brewers were held to 37.5-percent shooting after the break and went 1-for-13 from three-point range.
For The Brewers
- Gelb led three players in double-figures with a game-high 20 points, finishing 8-for-17 from the field. Gelb rounded out a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds and added a pair of steals.
- Harvey scored 19 points on the strength of 8-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line.
- Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.
- Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) came off the bench and supplied seven points and chipped in six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
- Caroline Siekman (Islesboro, ME) assisted on three buckets.
For The Bantams
- Vick led the way with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting while adding three rebounds and two assists.
- Indianna DelRocco chipped in 12 points, three assists and two steals.
- Avery Marzo totaled 10 points and three assists.
- Madi Foreman finished the win with seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Game Statistics
- Vassar was held to a season-low 33.3-percent shooting, including a 2-for-22 showing from three-point range.
- Trinity shot 47.3-percent, the best percentage against the Brewers to date, and connected on six three-pointers.
- Trinity outscored Vassar 17-15 from the free-throw line.
- Vassar held a commanding 17-7 edge in offensive rebounds, but Trinity cashed in a 14-12 advantage in second chance scoring.
