Women’s Soccer Edged By Skidmore

Crowley nets 11th goal

Poughkeepsie, NY – In a clash of Liberty League unbeaten teams on Saturday afternoon, the Vassar College Women's Soccer team was clipped by visiting Skidmore 2-1. First Year Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) netted her team leading 11th goals of the season.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore remains unbeaten at 7-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference action.
 
How It Happened
  • All the scoring on Saturday took place in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Skidmore opened the scoring early, getting the first goal of the game in the fifth minute.
  • Abby Lewis scored her first goal of the game, off a feed from Ella Stone, at 4:52 to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 advantage.
  • Vassar struck back with the equalizer in the 24th minute off the foot of Crowley.
  • Crowley won a ball on the right wing and worked to the top of the box where she buried her 11th goal of the season at 23:45.
  • With the game even at a goal apiece, Skidmore got the eventual deciding tally in the 35th minute.
  • Lewis struck with her second goal of the game, finishing of a passing play from Molly Cunningham and Hannah Fetzer at 34:19.
  • Vassar outshot Skidmore in the first half, 11-9, including an attempt from Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) with 3:05 left before halftime that rang the crossbar.
  • First half corner kicks went to the Brewers 2-1.
  • Vassar outshot Skidmore in the second half 7-2, with Crowley hitting the right post in the 62nd minute.
  • The Brewers had a shot off the foot of Riley McGrath (Coranado, CA) stopped by Skidmore keeper Avery Rogers in the final minute.
  • Vassar took two of the three second half corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Crowley scored for the 11th time and has a goal in two straight games and seven of the team's 11 contests.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) led the team with three shots, putting on shot on frame.
  • McGrath, Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) and Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) each finished with two shots.
  • JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) suffered the loss in goal, making three first half saves.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) came on to play the second half and was not forced to make a stop.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Lewis scored twice, potting goals on each of her two shots in the contest.
  • Stone, Cunningham and Setzer all recorded a helper in the victory.
  • Madison Hallet paced Skidmore with four shots in the game.
  • Rogers earned the win in the game with a trio of saves.

  • Vassar held an 18-11 advantage in overall shots, but Skidmore finished with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers doubled up the Thoroughbreds in corner kicks, 4-2.
