#20 Men’s Soccer Battles Past Skidmore, 1-0

Lee nets game winning goal

Saratoga Springs, NY – First Year Joshua Lee (Bethlehem, PA) scored his second career game winning goal on Saturday as the #20 Vassar College Men's Soccer team took to the road and came away with a hard fought 1-0 win at league rival Skidmore.
 
Saturday's win, Vassar's third straight to begin conference play, pushes the Brewers to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Skidmore falls to 1-2-6 overall and 0-1-2 in league competition.
 
How It Happened
  • The opening 45 minutes was played scoreless with Vassar holding a 10-7 advantage in shots.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) turned aside a pair of shots in the first half to keep the homestanding Thoroughbreds off the board.
  • The Brewers took the only corner kick of the first 45 minutes.
  • The game remained scoreless until the 67th when Vassar scored the only goal of the game.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) played a ball that Lee deposited at 66:40 for the only scoring of the contest.
  • Vassar unleashed 17 shots in the second half, but connected on just the one attempt.
  • The Brewers took six of the seven corner kicks in the second half.
  • Rapan made two more saves after halftime to preserve the shutout.
  • Skidmore keeper Will Devall was forced to make nine saves after halftime to keep the Thoroughbreds to within a shot.
 
For The Brewers
  • Lee scored his second career goal and second game winning goal in the last three contests.
  • Fiske picked up his third assist of the season, moving into a three-way tie for the team lead in helpers.
  • Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) led the team with nine shots and four shots on goal.
  • Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL), Fiske, Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) and Lee all closed the day with three shots for Vassar.
  • Raphan earned his second career shutout with four saves and lowered his goals against average to 1.02 while raising his save percentage to .757.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Devall suffered a tough loss in goal with 11 saves on the day.
  • Cole Rogan led the team with three shots, putting one shot on target.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the game with a convincing 27-13 advantage in shots, including 12-4 in shots on goal.
