#13 Vassar Powers Past Hobart; Runs Winning Streak To Four

Grossman posts three points in victory

Poughkeepsie, NY – First Year Clem Grossman (Cold Spring, NY) scored a goal and added an assist with Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) and Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) adding markers for the #13 Vassar College Men's Soccer team in a 3-0 home Liberty League victory over Hobart Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's victory, Vassar's fourth straight to open league play, pushes the Brewers to 9-2 overall and perfect 4-0 against Liberty League rivals. Hobart drops to 1-5-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar got all the scoring it would need in the ninth minute when Tobolski scored for the team leading ninth time. He finished off a feed from Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) at 8:38 to give the Brewers an early 1-0 lead.
  • Vassar would double its advantage late in the first half when Keker tallied for the second time in 2024 in the 38th minute.
  • Grossman played a ball into the box from the left wing that Keker deposited at 37:59 to send the Brewers into the half leading 2-0.
  • Shots over the first 45 minutes were even at 5-5.
  • Hobart took the only two corner kicks of the first half.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) kept the Statesmen off the board with a single save prior to the break.
  • The two-goal advantage held for the Brewers until the 75th minute when Grossman found the back of the net for the first time in his career.
  • After Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) had a shot blocked, Grossman collected the rebound and fired home the final goal of the contest at 74:37.
  • Vassar controlled play after halftime, outshooting Hobart 9-1.
  • Vassar recorded the only three corner kicks in the second half.
 
For The Brewers
  • Grossman recorded the first three points of his career with an assist and a marker. He became the eight different Brewer to record a goal in 2024.
  • Tobolski potted his team leading ninth goal of the season and finished tied for the team lead with two shots.
  • Keker returned to the Vassar lineup with his second goal of the season and moved into fourth on the team in points with seven.
  • Torrey and Mejia each moved into a tie for the team lead with four assists.
  • Keker, Tobolski, Torrey and Otis Wildman (Tampa, FL) all recorded a pair of attempts in the contest.
  • Raphan turned in his third career shutout and third clean sheet in the last four games for the Brewers. Raphan finished the day with a single stop.
 
For The Statesmen
  • Six different players finished with a shot for Hobart.
  • Keeper Tommy Chyzowych suffered the loss in goal, making four stops.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar closed Saturday's victory with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers 3-2.
  • Fouls in the contest were whistled 10-4 against the Statesmen.
