Women's Volleyball Earns Home Triumph Over Bard

Three players tally three aces, four players record five or more kills

Poughkeepsie, NY - Four players recorded five or more kills to lead the Vassar College Women's Volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 sweep over Bard on Wednesday evening at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers improve to 6-13 overall and 3-4 in conference action while the Raptors drop to 4-19 on the season and 0-7 in Liberty League play.

FIRST SET
  • Vassar tallied the first six points of the set behind three aces from sophomore Holland Kaplan and kills from junior Rebecca Gutierrez and first year Erin Lovett.
  • Annika Flittie's winner cut the Vassar lead to 9-4 before a Kaplan kill and three straight aces from sophomore Maura McAusland extended the lead to 13-4.
  • The Brewers advantage expanded to 19-6 on aces from senior Molly Ardren and junior Ellie Kogan and three kills from Kaplan.
  • A kill and an ace from McAusland clinched the opening set victory for Vassar.
SECOND SET
  • The Brewers raced out to a 10-1 lead to begin the set as Ardren landed three aces and Lovett buried four winners.
  • Bard battled back to cut the lead to 11-7 after a winner from LaeAnna Riley and a block from Carmen Merrick.
  • The lead grew to 16-8 following a winner from McAusland and Kaplan along with a block from seniors Julia Hale and Frannie Anthony-Brumfield.
  • Flittie's kill trimmed the advantage to 20-14 before two kills from McAusland along with a winner each from sophomore Francesca Medrano and Anthony-Brumfield.
THIRD SET
  • Following a 6-6 beginning to the set, Vassar earned a 9-6 advantage after kills from Anthony-Brumfield and senior Hailey Hayes and a block from Kaplan and Gutierrez.
  • After Bard cut the lead to 11-10, Vassar rattled off five straight points on two kills from McAusland and a winner and ace from Kaplan.
  • The lead grew to 22-14 on a block from Anthony-Brumfield and Hale before Vassar took the set after kills from Gutierrez and Lovett.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • McAusland buried a match-high 11 kills along with four aces, two blocks and digs while Lovett added eight kills and two digs.
  • Kaplan finished with seven winners, four aces and nine digs along with Gutierrez recording five kills and three blocks.
  • Anthony-Brumfield registered two kills and four blocks and Medrano added two kills and two assists.
  • Ardren recorded a match-high 19 assists, four aces and five digs while Hayes recorded 10 assists and three digs.
FOR THE RAPTORS
  • Flittie tallied five kills and three digs while Riley added four kills and four digs.
  • Coral Cook finished with three kills and two aces along with Merrick recording two kills and four blocks.
  • Becca Wintjen handed out 15 assists along with eight digs and three blocks while Ella Small lifted a match-high 11 digs.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar heads to RIT for a crucial conference match on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
  • Bard closes the conference slate at Ithaca on Saturday.
