Vassar, RPI Ends In Scoreless Draw

Shea records fourth shutout

Troy, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team played its first road game since October 12 on Wednesday night and settled for a 0-0 draw at league rival RPI. First Year goalkeeper Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) ended the contest with her fourth shutout of the season.
 
Following Wednesday's result, Vassar stands at 9-2-5 overall and 4-1-3 in Liberty League play. RPI moves to 7-5-2 overall and 2-4-2 overall. With one league game left to play, Vassar sits in third-place in the conference standings, two points behind William Smith and three-points behind league leader Ithaca.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar doubled up the Engineers in shots over the first 45 minutes, 6-3.
  • RPI keeper, Sierra Skelding, turned aside a Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) attempt in the seventh minute to keep the Brewers off the board.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) would be denied by Skelding with just under 10 minutes left before halftime.
  • Just before Skelding's second save of the half, RPI got a team save on a Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) attempt in the 36th minute.
  • The Brewers took the only corner kick of the first 45 minutes.
  • Shea made a single save in the first half for the Brewers.
  • Skelding finished the opening period with a pair of stops.
  • Shots were tough to come by after halftime, with Vassar holding a 4-2 edge in attempts.
  • Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) had a shot denied in the 70th minute, the Brewers' only shot on goal after halftime.
  • Shea kept the game scoreless with her only save of the second half in the 65th minute.
