Brewers Rally Past RIT In Regular Season Finale; Earn Third Seed In Liberty League Championship

Vassar hosts First Round contest on Tuesday

Rochester, NY – Senior Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) each scored second half goals to rally the Vassar College Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory at RIT Saturday afternoon in its regular season finale.
 
Saturday's win pushes Vassar to 10-2-5 over on the season and 5-1-3 in Liberty League, clinching the third seed in next week's Liberty League Championship. 2024 marks the first time since 2019 the Brewers have won as many as 10 games in a season.
 
How It Happened
  • RIT got the only goal of the first half when Amber Flynn scored her first of the season in the seventh minute to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
  • RIT would carry the one-goal advantage into the intermission with first half shots even at 7-7.
  • The Brewers doubled up RIT in corner kicks prior to halftime, 4-2.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) made a pair of saves over the course of the first half to keep Vassar to within a goal.
  • RIT keeper, Emily Sanchez, was busy in the first half and turned aside five Vassar attempts.
  • Vassar would get the game even in the middle stages of the second half when Namba converted her second goal of the year.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) started the scoring play at 64:51 with her second assist of the season.
  • The two sides remained tied at 1-1 until the 75th minute when Panarelli drilled a free-kick that found the back of the net for the eventual game winning goal at 74:02.
  • The Brewers controlled play in the second half, outshooting RIT 9-2.
  • Vassar did not allow a shot over the final 13 minutes of the contest.
  • Second half corner kicks were even at 1-1.
 
For The Brewers
  • Namba found the back of the net for the second time in 2024 and finished the contest with three shots.
  • Panarelli tallied for the fifth time this season and scored her first game winning goal of the year. Panarelli moved into a tie for third-place on the team with 11 points following Saturday's marker.
  • Rodriguez earned her sixth-point of the season with the assist on Namba's goal.
  • Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) led the team with six shots, putting five on target.
  • Panarelli and Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) each finished the game with two shots.
  • Shea earned her fifth win in goal after making two saves on Saturday.
 
For The Tigers
  • Flynn became the 12th different Tiger to score a goal with Saturday's marker.
  • Jillian Antol picked up her third assist of the season for RIT.
  • Olivia Harris led the Tigers with three shots in the game.
  • Sanchez suffered the loss in goal with six saves on the day.
