Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Squash team opened the season in strong fashion on Saturday, earning victories in two of its three contests. After dropping a 6-3 decision to Fordham to start the day, the Brewers rallied for an 8-1 win over Boston University and a 9-0 sweep over Northeastern.
Saturday's results open Vassar's season at 2-1.
Vassar 3 – Fordham 6
- Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cypress) opened the season in fine fashion on Saturday, posting an 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 sweep at one for the Brewers.
- Luke Chen (Bellevue, WA) opened the year at 1-0 after posting an impressive 11-7, 11-4, 11-7 victory at six.
- Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) also opened the year with a victory, earning a hard fought 6-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 win at eight for Vassar.
Vassar 8 – Boston U. 1
- The Brewers picked up their first win of the year in the second match of the day.
- Georgallides moved to 2-0 on the season with an 11-6, 11-13, 11-4, 11-7 win at one against the Terriers.
- Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) got into the win column for the first time with an 8-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3 win at three for the Brewers.
- First Year Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) earned his first career win with a 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 sweep at four.
- Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) got into the win column for the first time as well following a 12-10, 11-6, 11-9 win.
- Chen moved to 2-0 on the season following an 11-6, 11-8, 11-1 victory.
- Lalji also improved to 2-0 on the season at eight with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-1 win.
- Patrick Looby (Westport, CT) found the win column for the first time after earning an 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 victory at seven on Saturday.
- Will Knauss (Buffalo, NY) outlasted his opponent at nine on Saturday, holding on for an 11-8, 11-8, 2-11, 7-11, 11-6 victory.
Vassar 9 – Northeastern 0
- Vassar finished off a busy Saturday with a clean sweep of the Huskies.
- Jarid Haslinger (Los Angeles, CA) won for the first time at two against Northeastern, earning an 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 victory.
- Georgallides closed a perfect 3-0 day with an 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9 win at the top spot.
- Benson won at three for the second time with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 victory.
- Okulski closed a strong day with a 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 win for Vassar.
- Lugo got back into the win column following an 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 victory.
- Chen finished off a perfect day with an 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 win.
- Looby finished off the day with an 11-5, 11-1, 11-9 win.
- Lalji rounded out a perfect 3-0 day at eight with an impressive 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 triumph.
