Field Hockey Toppled at #23 Ithaca

Vassar plays its final road game of the season on Friday against William Smith

Ithaca, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team traveled north on Sunday afternoon to conference foe #23 Ithaca as the Brewers fell 4-0 on the road. Vassar's record moves to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play while the Bombers improve to 9-5 on the season and 4-1 in Liberty League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless first quarter, Ithaca scored the first goal of the game just under three minutes into the second quarter on Natalie Descalso goal on an assist from Brenna Schoenfeld.
  • The Bombers threatened again with two minutes left in the half on a penalty corner as sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley turned away a shot from Payton Yahner to keep the deficit at one at halftime.
  • Vassar earned a penalty corner to open the second half as junior Sofia Beseth's shot was saved by Ithaca goalie Maeve Clark.
  • Ithaca doubled its lead a minute later as Meara Bury scored her fourth goal of the season.
  • The Bombers added a third goal at the midway point of the third quarter on a Madeleine Goodman shot off a Bella McCollister feed on a corner.
  • Ithaca pushed its lead to 4-0 with just over a minute left in the quarter off a corner as Audrey McMahon deflected in a shot from Descalso.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Beseth recorded two shots, including one on goal, while first year Zoe Robinson added a shot.
  • Wiley made seven saves in goal for Vassar.
FOR THE BOMBERS
  • Descalso finished with a goal and an assist on three shots (two on goal).
  • Goodman and Bury each scored a goal along with McCollister and Schoenfeld both tallied an assist.
  • Clark made one save in goal in 45 minutes of action while Abby Cannon played the final quarter in net.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will play its final road contest of the season against William Smith on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
  • Ithaca plays host to conference foe Skidmore on Friday evening.
