Late Goals Lift Vassar Over Farmingdale State In Non-Conference Finale

Crowley, Ivie score; Shea posts first career shutout

Farmingdale, NY – First Years Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) and Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) scored late in regulation and classmate Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) recorded her first career shutout as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team won its third straight game with a 2-0 road victory at Farmingdale State Wednesday night.
 
Wednesday's win in the non-conference finale pushes Vassar to 7-1-2 overall with the loss dropping Farmingdale State to 3-6-3.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides played a scoreless first half with Farmingdale State entering the intermission with a slim 7-6 edge in shots.
  • Vassar took the only three corner kicks in the first half.
  • Shea turned aside a pair of Farmingdale State shots to keep the Rams off the board.
  • Farmingdale State keeper, Sam Richards, made four saves to keep Vassar out of the scoring column.
  • The two teams remained deadlocked until the late stages of the second half when Vassar struck twice just over three minutes apart.
  • Crowley opened the scoring in the 77th minute when she headed in her team leading 10th goal of the season.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) started a free-kick that Crowley converted at 76:29 for what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • The Brewers cashed in an insurance goal in the 80th minute when Ivie tallied an unassisted goal to double the Vassar lead.
  • Ivie headed in a failed clearing attempt from the Rams at 79:43 to close out the scoring in the tilt.
  • Farmingdale State finished the second half with a 10-7 advantage in shots, including two attempts on goal in the final six minutes that Shea denied.
  • The Rams had the only two corner kicks of the second stanza.
  • Shea made five stops in the second frame to keep Farmingdale State off the board.
 
For The Brewers
  • Making her second career start, Shea posted the first clean sheet of her career with a career-high seven saves.
  • Shea picked up her third win of the season in goal and lowered her goals against average to 0.80 while raising her save percentage to .833.
  • Crowley reached double-figures in goals with her 10th of the season. Crowley paces the Brewers in goals (10), points (22) and game winning goals (4).
  • Ivie found the scoring column for the second time in 2024, pushing her season point total to six.
  • Rodirguez helped on her first goal of the season, recording her fifth point of the year.
  • Crowley and Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) led the team with three shots apiece with McGarth putting all three attempts on target.
  • Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) closed the contest with a pair of shots on goal.
 
For The Rams
  • Nicole Celeste led all players in the game with four shots.
  • Kayla Mendez paced the Rams with two shots on goal.
  • Richards suffered the loss in goal, making seven saves on the night.

  • Farmingdale State finished with a 17-13 advantage in overall shots, while Vassar posted a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.
