Canton, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team played the first of back-to-back games in the North Country Friday afternoon and settled for a 3-3 draw at St. Lawrence.
Otis Wildman (Tampa, FL) and
Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) each scored their first career goal and First Year
Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) recorded his first career point in the contest.
Friday's result moves Vassar to 9-2-1 overall on the season and 4-0-1 in conference play while maintaining a four-point lead over St. Lawrence and Clarkson in the league standings. The Saints move to 5-2-4 overall and 2-0-3 in league play following Friday's draw.
How It Happened
- Vassar found itself trailing by a goal following a Sam Pijpers tally at the 14:44 mark of the contest.
- The Saints held the one-goal advantage until the 42:01 mark when Wildman found the back of the net for the first time, burying a feed from Clifton to bring the Brewers even heading into the intermission.
- St. Lawrence closed the first half with a slim 9-8 advantage in shots.
- Vassar took the only corner kick of the opening 45 minutes.
- St Lawrence keeper, George Charalambous, was busy in the first half, turning aside six Vassar attempts.
- The Brewers surged in front with consecutive goals just over two minutes apart in the early stages of the second half.
- Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) pushed the Brewers in front 2-1 with his fourth goal of the season at the 57:09 mark of the contest.
- Mejia followed with his first goal of the season at 59:46 to give Vassar a 3-1 edge with just over 30 minutes left to play.
- Vassar maintained its two-shot lead until the 79th minute when Henry Brown brought the Saints to within 3-2 with his seventh tally of the season.
- The Brewers continued to cling to a one-goal lead until Brown struck again with the equalizer with just 30 seconds left in the second frame.
- Vassar outshot St. Lawrence 8-5 after halftime.
- Each team took a corner kick after the break.
- Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) made a trio of saves in the second half.
- Charalambous made two more stops in the second half for the Saints.
For The Brewers
- Wildman scored for the first time and became the ninth different Brewer to find the back of the net in 2024.
- Mejia also scored for the first time in his career and became the 10th different player to score for Vassar this season. With four assists, Mejia stands fifth-place on the team with six points.
- Clifton picked up a helper on Wildman's goal, earning his first career point.
- Torrey moved into third place on the team in goals with four and points with 12 following his tally on Friday.
- Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ), Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) and Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) all finished with three shots, with each of Keker's landing on frame.
- Raphan finished the day with three stops in goal.
For The Saints
- Brown scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season late in the second half, moving his team lead in points to 17.
- Max Mogul and Baker Diaz each finished the day with an assist.
- Mogul led all players in the game with six shots.
- Charalambous made eight saves in goal in the draw.
