Field Hockey Drops Conference Match to Union

Brewers head up to #23 Ithaca on Sunday afternoon

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team returned home to Weinberg Field on Friday evening as the Brewers fell 3-0 to conference foe Union. Vassar moves to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play while the Garnet Chargers improve to 10-4 on the season and 3-1 in Liberty League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar earned an early chance off a penalty corner as senior Alexa Gwyn's shot was turned away by Union goalie Sophie Brady.
  • Union tallied the first goal of the game with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter as Reese Fendelet scored off a feed from Megan Dorsey.
  • The Garnet Chargers doubled the advantage just 36 seconds into the second period as Megan Dorsey fired a shot in the back of the net on an insert from Maddie Greco.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley made four stops in the second period to keep the Union lead at two.
  • Union scored its third goal of the contest following the halftime break as Rachel Ostiguy deflected in a shot from Kristen O'Shea after a sweeping pass from Dorsey.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Gwyn recorded the lone shot on goal while first year Zoe Robinson and sophomore Anna Hazewindus each registered a shot.
  • First year Sophie Rosenblum earned her first defensive save of the season.
  • Wiley made eight saves in goal for Vassar in the loss.
FOR THE GARNET CHARGERS
  • Dorsey finished with a goal and two assists while Fendelet and Ostiguy each tallied an assist.
  • Greco and O'Shea also added an assist for Union.
  • Brady earned the win in 45 minutes of action and made one saves while Tess Parker played the final 15 minutes in net.
