Seniors Propel Field Hockey to Senior Day Triumph Over Skidmore

Baker scores first goal, Gwyn assists on eventual game-winner

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as seniors Tori Baker and Alexa Gwyn propelled the Brewers to a 2-1 victory over Skidmore at Weinberg Field. Vassar improves to 3-10 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play while the Thoroughbreds move to 6-7 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar scored the first goal of the game just under six minutes into the first quarter as Baker knocked home a crossing pass from sophomore Karina Hoffman for her fifth goal of the season to earn a early advantage.
  • Skidmore had a strong chance midway through the second period as Abby Ezickson's shot glanced off the post and the rebound from Ezickson was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley to keep the game 1-0 at halftime.
  • First year Zoe Robinson doubled the lead for Vassar on an assist from Gwyn with just under four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Vassar kept the game scoreless as Wiley made back-to-back saves on Colby Paul and Mia Angwin with under a minute to go.
  • Skidmore tallied a late goal from Angwin with 28 seconds remaining but the Brewers held the advantage to earn its first conference victory of the season.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Baker recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season while Gwyn increased her team-leading number in assists to four.
  • Robinson scored her second goal of the year along with Wiley earning the win in goal with four saves.
FOR THE THOROUGHBREDS
  • Angwin registered the lone goal for Skidmore while recording two shots on goal.
  • Paul finished with two shots on goal and Victoria Bodnar made one save in net in the loss.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will play host to Union in a conference matchup on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
  • Skidmore will travel to non-conference foe Sage on Wednesday.
