Men’s Squash Downs Bucknell, Falters Against Haverford

Haslinger wins twice on the day

Haverford, PA – The Vassar College Men's Squash team took the road Saturday afternoon and scored an 8-1 victory over Bucknell before falling at Haverford 7-2. Jarid Haslinger (Los Angeles, CA) won both of his matches on the day.
 
Saturday's split moves Vassar's overall record to 5-8 on the season.
 
For The Brewers vs. Bucknell
  • In a dominant performance against the Bison, Haslinger scored an 11-2, 11-4, 11-3 victory at the fifth position.
  • Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) was in action at four against Bucknell and battled past Gavin Frechette 12-10, 11-6, 11-4.
  • First Year Jay Vashisht (Short Hills, NJ) fell behind 2-0 at the top position, but following an 11-9 victory and moving in front 7-0, the opponent from Bucknell retired.
  • Luke Chen (Bellevue, WA) put together a strong match at three for the Brewers, posting an 11-5, 11-9, 11-4 triumph.
  • Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) moved up to the sixth position against the Bison and took care of Bucknell's Edison Scutari 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
  • First Year Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) overwhelmed the opponent at seven in an 11-2, 11-1, 11-4 decision.
  • Daniel Smith (Littleton, CO) at eight and Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) at nine each won by default.
 
For The Brewers vs. Haverford
  • Haslinger closed out a strong day for Vassar with a hard fought 11-5, 11-9, 17-15 victory.
  • Rithik Jalali (Dubai, UAE) earned an impressive 3-1 victory at the top spot for Vassar against the Fords. After falling 11-8 in the opener, Jalali rebounded to take the next three frames by scores of 11-9, 11-9 and 11-8.
  • Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cypress) suffered a tough 13-11, 5-11, 6-11, 6-11 loss at the third slot for the Brewers.
  • Lalji was outlasted in five at five for the Brewers. After taking the first two frames, Lalji saw Haverford's Benjamin Schlitz come back with 13-11, 11-8 and 11-4 victories.
  • Lugo also suffered a tough 3-2 defeat at nine for Vassar. After falling behind 2-0, Lugo took the next two sets before falling in the fifth by a score of 11-6.
  • Patrick Looby (Westport, CT) suffered a 3-1 loss at seven. After falling behind 2-0, Looby scored an 11-8 victory before eventually dropping the fourth 11-8.
 
What's Next
  • Saturday's contest closed out the regular season for the Brewers. Next up is the Liberty League Championships beginning February 9.
