Vassar Pulls Away For Road Victory At Springfield

Fauth, Keker each score twice

Springfield, MA – Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) and Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) each scored twice and Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) scored for the second straight contest as the Vassar College Men's Soccer team posted a 5-1 road non-conference victory at Springfield Wednesday night.
 
Wednesday's win pushes Vassar to 2-1 overall on the season while Springfield dips to 0-1-1 through two contests.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the scoring late in the first half when Fauth tallied for the second time on the season in the 40th minute. He finished off a feed from Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) at 39:43 to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
  • The Brewers carried a one goal cushion into the intermission after outshooting Springfield 7-1 to coupled with a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Coming out of the break, Keker scored what proved to be the game winning goal just under two minutes into the second stanza. Danny Berry (Haskell, NJ) picked up the assist on the goal that came at the 46:46 mark of the match.
  • Springfield climbed to within a goal at 56:42 when Tristan Moran scored to pull the Pride to within 2-1.
  • Clinging to a one-goal advantage, Vassar scored three times in just under eight minutes to pull away for the final four-goal decision.
  • Fiske got on the board for the second time in 2023 at 61:49 with an unassisted tally before Fauth put away his third goal of the year just 33 seconds later.
  • Keker closed out the scoring at 67:29 when he finished off a pass from Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL) for his fifth goal of the young season.
  • Vassar closed the second half with a slim 8-6 advantage in shots and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks after the break.
 
For The Brewers
  • Keker posted a multiple goal game for the second straight outing and picked up his first game winning goal of the year. Keker leads the team in goals with five and points with 10.
  • Fauth pushed his goal total to three and stands second on the team in markers and points. Fauth led the team in shots with five and shots on goal with three in the game.
  • Fiske potted his second goal of the season and is tied for third on the team in scoring.
  • Tekin and Torrey each collected their second helpers of the season.
  • Berry assisted on the game winning goal, posting his first point of the season.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) made his first career start in goal for the Brewers and turned aside a pair of shots in earning the victory.
 
For The Pride
  • Moran scored his first goal of the season and joined Maitoe Suppasuesanguan and Cole Sampson with two shots in the contest.
  • Aidan Hallinan assisted on the Springfield goal, accounting for his first point of the season.
  • Noah Pote made the start in goal for Springfield and finished the night with four saves in the loss.
 
Match Statistics
  • Vassar finished with a 15-7 advantage in overall shots and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers took nine of the 12 corner kicks in the contest.
  • Fouls went against the home standing Pride, 13-9.
