Ganasoulis makes five saves in first career start

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team returned home for the first time in 10 days on Wednesday and suffered a hard fought 1-0 loss to local rival New Paltz. Vasilis Ganasoulis (Glen Head, NY) made his first career start in goal for the Brewers and turned aside five shots.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 2-2 overall on the season, while the Hawks remain unbeaten at 4-0-1 through five tilts.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides played scoreless until the late stages of the second half when New Paltz broke through with the only goal of the game in the 85th minute.
  • Joseph DiPreta started a free kick for the Hawks that found the head of Brandon Davenport who found the low right corner at 84:47 for the game winning goal.
  • The goal came on the Hawks' fifth shot of the half, with Ganasoulis turning aside a pair of New Paltz attempts after halftime.
  • The first half saw Vassar outshoot New Paltz 8-3 with Hawks keeper Christian Micheli making four stops, including back-to-back saves from close range in the 33rd minute.
  • Diego Pastor-Valverde (Durham, NC) was robbed on a shot from the top of the box before Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) had the rebound attempt turned aside to keep the game scoreless.
  • Vassar had a strong attempt from Kinlay Watkins (Berkeley, CA) denied by Micheli in the 82nd minute to keep the game scoreless.
 
For The Brewers
  • Ganasoulis had an impressive debut for the Brewers on Wednesday, finishing with five saves for the Brewers. The Hawks were kept off the board due to three saves in the opening 45 minutes and Ganasoulis added two more stops after halftime for the Brewers.
  • Owen Fauth (Keane, NH) led Vassar with four shots, putting two on target.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) closed the day with a trio of attempts.
  • Torrey posted a pair of shots for the Brewers, putting one on target.
 
For The Hawks
  • Davenport scored his second goal of the season late in the second half.
  • DiPreta recorded the assist on the lone goal of the game.
  • DiPreta and Thomas O'Neill each led the team with two shots in the game.
