Field Hockey Takes Down William Smith On Senior Day

Two fourth quarter goals push Brewers to 2-0 in Liberty League play

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Senior Jaclyn Narleski and junior Tori Baker each scored a fourth quarter goal as the Vassar College Field Hockey team broke a 1-1 tie in the final period to earn a 3-1 victory over William Smith on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Liberty League action while the Herons fall to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar got on the board in the first quarter as sophomore Sofia Beseth earned a penalty stroke opportunity and converted to make it 1-0 with just over five minutes left in the opening quarter.
  • Following a scoreless second period, William Smith drew even on a goal from Libby Maxwell on an assist from Rebecca Mantione following a penalty corner to tie the game at one entering the final quarter.
  • Vassar picked up its eventual game-winning goal on a pass from Beseth to Baker just two and a half minutes into the final quarter.
  • The Brewers doubled its advantage following a beautiful pass from Beseth that found the stick of Narleski to deflect it past the goalkeeper with just under two minutes left in the period.
