Brewers Falter At New York University

Zimmer makes seven saves

Newark, NJ – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team took to the road for the first time in 2023 Sunday afternoon and suffered a 3-0 non-conference loss at New York University. Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ) closed the day with seven saves in goal for the Brewers.
 
Sunday's loss levels Vassar's record at 1-1 overall on the season, while the Violets improve to a perfect 2-0.
 
How It Happened
  • The only goal of the first half came in the seventh minute when Catie Collins scored what proved to be the game winning goal at the 6:05 mark of the contest. Gabriella Funk picked up an assist on the goal that gave NYU the early 1-0 advantage.
  • Vassar was held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes with NYU holding an 11-0 advantage in attempts at the break.
  • First half corner kicks were even in the opening 45 minutes, 1-1.
  • NYU doubled its advantage just over 10 minutes into the second period when Riley Mullady converted a penalty kick at 55:35.
  • The Violets closed out the scoring in the game on a Rena Kalargiros tally with just over 20 minutes left to play, finishing off an assist from Collins.
  • Shots in the second half went to the Violets, 7-5.
  • NYU took the only two corner kicks of the second stanza.
 
For The Brewers
  • Zimmer played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Brewers and closed the day with a season-high seven saves.
  • Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) led the team with two shots in the game.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA), Lindsey Nihei (Honolulu, HI) and Justine Tapert (New York, NY) each finished with a shot for Vassar.
 
For The Violets
  • Collins finished with a three-point game, notching the game winning goal and adding an assist.
  • Mullady and Kalargiros added insurance markers for NYU.
  • Riley Felsher earned the shutout victory in goal, making one save.
 
Match Statistics
  • NYU posted an 18-5 advantage in overall shots and a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Violets, 3-1.
  • Fouls in the contest were even at six per side.
