Men’s Soccer Tripped Up At Union

Ganasoulis makes a pair of saves

Schenectady, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team traveled to Union Saturday afternoon to open Liberty League play and fell to the Garnet Chargers 1-0. Vasilis Ganasoulis (Glen Head, NY) made his fifth straight start in goal and finished the day with two saves.
 
The Brewers fall to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play following Saturday's defeat, while Union improves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 against league rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • The lone goal of the game came in the 12th minute when Marco Perugini finished off an assist from Robbie Michalski at 11:32 for the eventual game winning goal.
  • The Brewers outshot Union 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes, including two in the final three minutes that were turned aside to keep them off the board.
  • The first half featured seven corner kicks with Union holding a 5-2 advantage.
  • Ganasoulis made one save in the first half for the Brewers.
  • Vassar was limited to just two shots after halftime with Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) and Kyle Lopes (El Dorado Hills, CA) missing the target inside the final 10 minutes of regulation.
  • Union finished the second stanza with a 5-2 advantage in shots.
  • Corner kicks after the break were even at 5-5.
  • Ganasoulis made one more save in the second half to keep the Brewers within a shot.
 
For The Brewers
  • Ganasoulis has allowed just a single goal in four of his five starts this season and holds a 2-2-1 record to go along with a 0.80 goals against average and a .800 save percentage. He turned aside a pair of shots for Vassar on Saturday.
  • Lopes led the team with two shots in the game.
  • Owen Fauth (Keane, NH) and Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL) each put a shot on goal.
 
For The Garnet Chargers
  • Perugini tallied his third goal of the season and tallied his first game winning goal of the year.
