Vassar, Bard Play Scoreless Draw

Ganasoulis posts second shutout

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team was in action at Gordon Field for just the third time in 2023 on Wednesday afternoon and played Liberty League rival Bard to a scoreless draw. Vasilis Ganasoulis (Glen Head, NY) closed the game with his second shutout of the season.
 
Vassar, who was shutout for the second straight game, moves to 4-3-2 overall on the season and 0-1-1 in league play, while Bard stands at 5-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 against Liberty League opponents.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar had three great chances to get on the board in the first half, including a shot from Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) from just inside the box that was denied by Bard keeper Gavin Hersey just 21 seconds into the contest.
  • Keker had a second opportunity in the fourth minute of the tilt when he rang a shot off the right post.
  • Jackson Allen (Chapel Hill, NC) had a chance in the eighth minute when a header clipped the crossbar following a corner kick.
  • Bard's only attempt of the first came off the foot of Mateo Betelu in the 31st minute, a shot that sailed wide.
  • Vassar closed the opening stanza with a 5-1 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Brewers carried the play much of the second half, forcing Hersey to make three saves after halftime to keep the game scoreless.
  • Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) had an attempt inside the box kicked out by a Bard defender early in the second half.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) and Keker each had shots denied by Hersey late in regulation time to keep the Brewers off the board.
  • Bard's best chance of the game came at the 85:20 mark of the contest when Reed Campbell had an attempt from the right wing turned aside by Ganasoulis.
  • Vassar rounded out the second half with an 11-1 advantage in shots and took six of the seven second half corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Ganasoulis was forced to make just the one save in the game to earn the shutout. He lowered his season goals against average to 0.67 and raised his save percentage to .810.
  • Keker led the team with six shots, putting two on goal.
  • Fauth and Kyle Lopes (El Dorado Hills, CA) each recorded a pair of shots for the Brewers.
 
For The Raptors
  • Hersey totaled three saves in the game to pick up the shutout for Bard.
  • Betelu and Campbell recorded the shots for Bard with Campbell putting the only attempt on target for the Raptors.

  • Vassar closed the game with a 16-2 advantage in shots, but just a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
