Women's Volleyball Falls in Conference Opener at Clarkson

Kaplan tallies six kills and nine digs for Vassar

POTSDAM, NY - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team opened up Liberty League play on the road on Friday night as the Brewers fell to Clarkson 20-25, 8-25, 15-25. The Brewers fall to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Golden Knights improve to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in Liberty League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FIRST SET
    • Clarkson took an early 6-2 lead following kills from Allyson Treichel and Natalie Peacock before Vassar evened it at nine on an ace from sophomore Melia Voss.
    • The Brewers moved ahead 16-12 after kills from first year Holland Kaplan and sophomore Rebecca Gutierrez.
    • Following a Clarkson service error that put Vassar ahead 17-15, the Golden Knights scored the next eight points as Tess Sorel landed an ace and Peacock buried a winner to make it 23-17.
    • Kaplan's winner cut the lead to 24-20 but a winner from Olivia Freer clinched the first set for Clarkson.
  • SECOND SET
    • The Golden Knights began the second set with a 7-3 lead after kills from Sorel, Treichel and Sara Galante before growing to 15-4 on a block from Peacock and Freer.
    • Two kills from Kaplan slowed the Golden Knights run at 23-8 but Galante's service ace took the second set for Clarkson.
  • THIRD SET
    • Clarkson opened up the third set with a 7-2 lead following aces from Galante and Isabelle Crow before a winner from Kaplan stopped the early run.
    • The Golden Knights scored eight of the next points to go ahead 15-4 after two aces from Anna Mayer and one from Marin Hangliter.
    • After Peacock's winner pushed the lead to 19-5, first year Maura McAusland buried a kill as Vassar trimmed the lead to 20-7.
    • Three straight kills from juniors Julia Hale and Frannie Anthony-Brumfield reduced the Clarkson lead to nine before the Golden Knights completed the sweep with a solo block from Peacock.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Kaplan finished with a team-high six kills and lifted nine digs while Hale registered five winners.
  • McAusland added four kills, four digs and two aces along with Gutierrez tallying three winners..
  • Voss handed out nine assists and added five digs as sophomore Ellie Kogan lifted a team-high 10 digs.
FOR THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
  • Galante recorded 10 kills, two aces and 12 digs along with Sorel tallying eight kills and two blocks.
  • Treichel finished with seven kills while Peacock added six kills and six blocks.
  • Crow handed out a match-high 22 assists and also lifted eight digs while Abigail Spector registered 12 digs.
  • Freer registered three kills and five blocks along with Hangliter tallying four kills, three aces and eight digs.
