Brewers Suffer Tight Non-Conference Loss To #18 Montclair State

Zimmer turns aside two shots

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team had its three-match winning streak stopped Saturday afternoon following a hard fought 1-0 home loss to #18 Montclair State. Three different Brewers recorded a shot in the game and Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ) made a pair of saves in goal.
 
Saturday's loss, the Brewers' first at Gordon Field in 2023, drops them to 4-2 overall on the season, while the Red Hawks improve to 4-1 through five tilts.
 
How It Happened
  • The game was scoreless until the 41st minute when the visitors potted the only goal of the game.
  • Gianna Curci deposited her first goal of the season off a feed from Samantha Gabriele for what proved to be the game winning marker at the 40:43 mark of the contest.
  • Montclair State finished the opening 45 minutes with a 5-1 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers lone attempt in the first stanza came off the foot of Noelle Namba (San Francsico, CA) in the 26th minute.
  • Vassar took two of the three first half corner kicks attempted.
  • Zimmer made one save over the opening half for Vassar.
  • The Brewers kept Montclair off the board in the second frame, but were unable to find the back of the net.
  • Olivia Lavelle (Scottsdale, AZ) had the Brewers' first shot in the second half and Justine Tapert (New York, NY) had a shot denied following a corner kick with just over 10 minutes left to play.
  • The Red Hawks finished the second half with a 5-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers took two more corner kicks after the break.
 
For The Brewers
  • Zimmer allowed just the one goal on Saturday and finished the day with two stops, moving her season total in saves to 22.
  • Namba finished with one of the team's three shots in the contest.
  • Lavelle and Tapert each finished with a shot on goal for the Brewers.
 
For The Red Hawks
  • Curci picked up her first tally and first game winning goal of the season.
  • Gabriele picked up her first point of the year with the assist on the game winner.
  • Aileen Cahill and Meagan O'Callahan each posted two shots and a shot on goal.
