Vassar Tops West Conn; Earns Third Straight Victory

Panarelli nets game winner, Rodriguez posts two assists

Danbury, CT – Behind goals from Gigi Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) and London Wilkes (Santa Monica, CA) and the second shutout of the season from Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ), the Vassar College Women's Soccer team picked up its third straight win and fourth in five outings to start the season with a 2-0 road win at Western Connecticut on Wednesday.
 
The victory pushes Vassar to 4-1 overall on the season and gives it four wins in the last five meetings with the Wolves. Western Connecticut drops to 0-3-2 overall on the season.
 
How It Happened
  • An even first half saw each side finish the opening 45 minutes with five shots.
  • Vassar closed the opening stanza with a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Zimmer finished a busy first half with four saves for the Brewers.
  • Panarelli opened the scoring in the 65th minute when she finished off her third goal of the season and picked up her second game winning tally.
  • Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) picked up her fourth assist of the season on the opening goal that came at the 64:23 mark of the contest.
  • Clinging to a 1-0 goal advantage, the Brewers doubled their lead with just over 12 minutes left to play when Wilkes found the scoring column for the first time in 2023.
