Brewers Cruise To Season Opening Victory Over Mount Saint Vincent

Six different Brewers record at point

Poughkeepsie, NY – Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) led six different players with point, scoring a goal and adding an assist, as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team opened the season with a convincing 4-0 non-conference home win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday.
 
Vassar wins its season opener for the fourth time in the last five seasons with Mount Saint Vincent dropping to 0-1 through the season's first contest.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar took a 2-0 lead into the intermission following goals from Bouggess and Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) in the first half.
  • Bougess opened the scoring in the 19th minute when she finished off a passing play from Claire Karlin (Arlington, VA) and Livy Soble (Pleasanton, CA) for what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • Vassar grew its lead to 2-0 late in the opening frame when McGrath collected a turnover and potted her first of the season at the 42:10 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Mount Saint Vincent 16-0 while taking the only two corner kicks of the period.
  • Coming out of the break, the Brewers ballooned their lead to three goals in the 55th minute when Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) entered the scoring column. She buried a pass from Bouggess at 54:43 to open the second half scoring.
  • The Brewers closed out the scoring in the game when Justine Tapert (New York, NY) unleashed a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net at 68:27.
  • Vassar finished the second frame with a 10-4 advantage in shots and a huge 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Bouggess registered three points, collecting the game winning goal and picking up her first assists of the season.
  • McGrath, Rodirguez and Tapert all scored their first goals of the season.
  • Jessica Young (The Woodlands, Texas) led the team with five shots, all on goal, in the game.
  • Rodriguez recorded four shots for the Brewers.
  • Olivia Lavelle (Scottsdale, AZ), Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) and Maddie Wolf (Mars, PA) all recorded three shots.
  • Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ) and Julia Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) combined on the shutout without having to make a save.
 
For The Dolphins
  • Mia Del Rosario led the team with a pair of attempts.
  • Brooke Frierson posted seven saves in nearly 72 minutes of action.
  • Javiera Sanchez came on to make five stops in the final 18:20 of the contest.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar held a 26-4 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 17-0 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers dominated corner kicks, 9-2.
  • Fouls in the contest were called 11-7 against Vassar.
