POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team returned to Prentiss Field on Wednesday as they were defeated 10-0 by New Paltz in non-conference action. The Brewers move to 16-13 overall while the Hawks improve to 8-19 on the season.
New Paltz struck for four runs in the third inning as Dillon Ristano singled to score Tommy Kreider followed by Justin Harvey scoring on a wild pitch. Pierson McGinnis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate a run and Ristano scored on a RBI fielder's choice from Justin Ortiz.
The Hawks added a run in the fifth as Garrett Grathwohl scored on a VC throwing error and then added a sixth run in the sixth as Ristano doubled home J. Harvey. New Paltz's lead expanded to 8-0 in the secenth as a Christopher Sais sacrifice fly followed by Matt Sarni scoring on a fielder's choice.
New Paltz tallied two runs in the ninth as Ristano continued his big day with a RBI single to score Kreider and Grathwohl scored Sais on a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 10-0 lead.
Collin Donnelly took the loss for Vassar as he threw 2.1 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, one walk and struck out one. Senior
Frankie Murphy tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief followed by junior
Kyle Flynn giving up an unearned run in his one inning relief outing.
James McGovern started on the mound for New Paltz as he threw four innings, allowing five hits, no runs and struck out two. Bobby Ramsey earned the win as he tossed two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three. Mike Ascanio and Shane Linett combined for three shutout innings in the final three innings to finish the game out for the Hawks.

Birch Herring-Jackson each added a hit. Ristano finished with three hits and four RBI while Kreider tallied four hits and Ortiz had three hits for the Hawks.
Vassar will return to Liberty League action on Friday afternoon against Union at Prentiss Field at 4:00 p.m.
