Buchan Wins 1500-Meters For Men's Track and Field at Ramapo

Brewers finish 12th overall out of 20 teams

MAHWAH, NJ - The Vassar College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams completed a strong meet at the Ramapo College Invitational on Saturday. The women's team finished third out of 21 teams while the men's team was eighth overall out of 20 teams.

Day two opened with the 4x100 women's relay of freshman Jamie Eu, junior Ava Novak, senior Lola Perez-Fry and sophomore Traci Francis winning with a time of 49.84. In the men's race, the quartet of sophomore Jae Young Seo, junior Darnell Worley, senior Tucker Quinlan and freshman Jacob Sellitti finished seventh overall in 45.29.

Senior Augusta Stockman earned a first place finish in the women's 1500-meters as she crossed the finish line in 4:47.83, defeating the next finisher by five seconds. Sophomore Tim Buchan was victorious in the men's race as he finished in a time of 3:58.18 along with sophomore Jose Magana finishing sixth in 4:07.50 and freshman Kai Chang scoring a ninth place finish in 4:11.08.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles, junior Nora Jensen qualified for the finals as she finished sixth in the prelims in 16.95 while freshmen Lila Miller and Freja Niklasson finished back-to-back in 10th and 11th place respectively. Miller crossed the finish line in 17.84 while Niklasson scored a time of 18.14. Jensen finished fifth overall in the finals with a time of 16.60.

Perez-Fry was fourth in the prelims of the women's 100-meters with a time of 13.05 to qualify for the finals while Eu finished ninth in 13.23. Freshman Sydney Passley-Harris tallied a 12th place finish in 13.42 for Vassar. Sellitti was the top finisher in the men's race as he finished 40th overall in a time of 12.27. In the finals, Perez-Fry tallied a fifth place finish in a time of 12.94.

Next was the women's 400-meters as Novak earned a 11th place finish in 1:02.15 along with freshman Margaret McLaughlin scoring a 17th overall finish in 1:04.53. Junior Sam Lytel finished 23rd in the men's race as he crossed the finish line in 53.68.

Vassar finished in the top two spots of the women's 800-meters as Stockman was victorious for the second time with a time of 2:22.00. Sophomore Sophia Henderson scored a second place finish in a time of 2:23.65. Sophomore Jose Magana recorded a second place finish in the men's race in a time of 1:58.56 along with freshmen Nick Miller and Arlo Rucker finishing 12th and 13th respectively. Miller finished with a time of 2:04.55 while Rucker crossed the line at 2:05.07.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Niklasson finished ninth overall in a time of 1:13.03. Sophomore Max Bergman recorded a 12th place finish in the men's race with a time of 1:02.46 and senior Lukas Muzila was 15th in 1:04.42.

Francis was the top Vassar finisher in the women's 200-meters as she crossed the finish line in seventh place with a time of 27.14 while Jensen recorded a 27th overall finish in 28.61. In the men's race, Worley was 11th overall in a time of 23.38 as the top finisher for the Brewers.

Vassar's women's 4x400 relay of McLaughlin, Henderson, junior Laura Wong and Novak earned a fourth place finish with a time of 4:20.05. In the men's race, the group of Worley, junior Tim Jacques, Miller and sophomore Nick Redstone finished seventh overall with a time of 3:30.29.

In the field events, sophomore Michael Came finished eighth overall in the men's javelin throw at 44.99 meters while sophomore Jeremy Frank was 13th with a distance of 40.78 meters. Sophomore Soleil Yuong was 10th in the women's event with a mark of 27.36 meters.

Yuong also competed in the women's discus throw with a mark of 30.88 meters for an eighth place finish and freshman Abbe Colgan was 16th with a distance of 28.42 meters before the finals were canceled due to inclement weather.

Perez-Fry recorded a fifth place finish in the women's long jump at 5.07 meters along with junior Heather Kwafo scoring an eighth place finish with a mark of 4.93 meters. Bergman was the top finisher in the men's event with a jump of 5.99 meters. Eu was 17th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.11 meters.

The women finished in third with 74 points while Stockton was the winner with 168 points. The men were 12th with 28 points while Stockton earned the team title with 134.66 points.

The Brewers will host the Vassar Invite on Friday night starting with field events at 4:00 p.m.
