Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road Against Clarkson

Uyeki records six points for Vassar in the loss

POTSDAM, NY - The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 18-11 road loss in a Liberty League contest against the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers record moves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action while the Golden Knights improve to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in conference matchups.

Senior Maddy Kretten scored first for Vassar just 32 seconds into the game on an assist from classmate Kateri Sanseviro before Madelynn Barnum tied it at one at the 13:23 mark on a free position shot. Freshman Kali Ringler scored off a feed from senior Annie Uyeki with 12:46 left until Lauren Shanahan evened the scoring on an assist from Julia Lavarnway. Following Kretten's second goal of the game at 9:23, Clarkson scored the final three of the quarter as Barnum, Lavarnway and Sofie Mangino gave the Golden Knights a 5-3 lead after the opening quarter.

Vassar scored three of the first four goals of the second quarter as Sanseviro and Uyeki scored two minutes apart and following a goal from Clarkson's Hailey Millington, sophomore Reilly Mulcahy tied the game at six at the 10:59 mark. The two teams traded tallies to make it seven all before Mia Petrone and Shanahan scored to give the Golden Knights a 9-7 lead. Sophomore Emma Torkelson scored with 4:12 left on an assist from Uyeki to cut the deficit to one at the halftime break.

Clarkson opened the second half with four straight goals as Petrone's goal at the 10:22 mark put the Golden Knights ahead 13-8. Uyeki and Sanseviro each scored in the final nine minutes of the quarter as Clarkson held a 14-10 lead after three quarters.

The Golden Knights increased its lead to 17-10 at the 8:51 mark as Millington scored twice along with one from Mangino. Barnum's free position goal at 8:03 pushed the lead to a game-high eight goals. Junior Yael Gelman scored for Vassar at the 5:16 mark to close out the contest.

Uyeki led the Brewers with six points on three goals and three assists while Kretten scored twice and Sanseviro picked up three points. Mulcahy finished with two points, two ground balls and four draw controls along with Torkelson scoring a goal and adding three draw controls and a caused turnover. Junior Lola Wright also tallied four draw controls while freshman Tess Billings and Gelman each recorded a caused turnover. Junior Lauren Johns suffered the loss in goal as she made six saves while sophomore Bree MacMullen made a save in net.

Barnum recorded six points on five goals and one assist for the Golden Knights and also tallied four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Millington and Mangino each scored three goals while Millington had two draw controls and one caused turnover. Shanahan finished with two goals, three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers along with Rylee Ganter picking up five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Petrone chipped in two goals, two ground balls and six draw controls and Lavarnway recorded six assists. Jennaca McGill earned the win in goal and made three saves for Clarkson.

Vassar will play its first home game since February when they take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday, April 7th at 3:00 p.m.
