POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The #37 Vassar College Men's Tennis team recorded its fourth straight victory on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers earned a 7-2 victory over #35 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Brewers improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Liberty League play while the Engineers fall to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
Freshmen duo
Fernando Bauermeister and
Nolan Kubiak battled to a 8-7 (7-4) victory over Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu at the top flight followed by Igor Visnevskijj and Abraham Yohannes winning 8-6 over freshmen
Miles Sondergaard Jensen and
Pedro Cattaruzzi at two. Three saw rookie
Ethan Mantell and sophomore
James Balon triumphing 8-7 (7-5) over Max Safanov and Bryce Burnham.
Mantell took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Safanov at six while Balon recorded a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory over Jonathan McMillan at fifth singles. Junior
Benjamin Almquist earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win against Zhu at two followed by sophomore
Arnav Agostinho triumphing 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 over Burnham. Bauermeister scored a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win against Drover-Mattinen at the top flight while Yohannes earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Kubiak at three.
Vassar will return to the courts on Saturday against St. Lawrence in the home regular season finale at 10:00 a.m.
