SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Vassar Women's Lacrosse team used a eight goal first half surge to earn a hard-fought 13-10 Liberty League victory over Skidmore on the road on Wednesday evening. The Brewers improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action while the Thoroughbreds move to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League play.

Maddy Kretten put Vassar on the board first on a feed from freshman
Kali Ringler followed by a man-up goal from sophomore
Emma Torkelson to go ahead 2-0 at the 10:06 mark. Gabriella Modesti scored twice in the first quarter for the Thoroughbreds while Torkelson scored her second of the night to give Vassar a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter.

Annie Uyeki each scored for Vassar to push its lead to 7-2 with 3:56 remaining. Jillian Lockwood scored for Skidmore before Sanseviro scored before the end of the half on an assist from sophomore

Lockwood opened the second half scoring for the Thoroughbreds at the 12:41 mark before back-to-back goals from junior

Tess Billings extended the Vassar lead to 10-4 with 5:15 left in the quarter. Lockwood tallied her three goal of the night with 3:50 left before Kretten scored her third to give the Brewers a 11-5 lead after three quarters.
Grace deBenedictis and Elizabeth Walsh each scored for Skidmore in the first five minutes of the second quarter while Billings recorded her second tally of the night to put the Vassar lead at 12-7 with 10:10 to go. Mulcahy scored her first of the night at the 6:07 mark to push its lead to six before Modesti tallied her third goal at the 2:42 mark for Skidmore. Julia Cafasso scored with 45 seconds left for the Thoroughbreds on an assist from Lily Schwartzman before DeBenedictis scored for the second time with 18 seconds remaining.
Kretten tallied five points on the night while Torkelson added three goals, four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Billings and Sanseviro each scored twice and picked up two ground balls. Junior

Lola Wright had a team-high four draw controls. Junior
Lauren Johns earned the win in goal as she made five saves for Vassar.
Modesti and Lockwood each scored three goals for Skidmore while deBenedictis scored twice. Amanda Gardner and Modesti each picked up a team-high three ground balls while Lockwood won four draw controls and Walsh and deBenedictis each won three draw controls. Brooke LaVallee and Walsh each had a team-high two caused turnovers. Phoebe Beshlian took the loss in goal for Skidmore while Liv Kazanjian made eight saves in net.
Vassar will conclude its road swing on Saturday when they head to Clarkson for a 12:00 p.m. faceoff.
