Men's Lacrosse Falls to #3 RIT

Third quarter surge for the Tigers tallied seven goals to triumph over Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Third-ranked RIT used a seven-goal third quarter surge to earn a 18-10 victory over the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Weinberg Field. The Brewers move to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in conference action while the Tigers improve to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in Liberty League matchups.

Vassar quickly scored the first goal of the game as senior Riley Olds buried one in the back of the net off a feed from junior Troy Santise at the 14:09 mark. The Tigers answered with the next five tallies as two goals from TJ Hendricks along with a goal each from Seth Grottenthaler, Michael Grace and Tyson Allison gave RIT a 5-1 edge with 5:39 to go.

The Brewers responded with three straight goals of its own as senior John Bradbury, sophomore Shane O'Hara and sophomore Drew Amirsakis each scored to cut the lead to one with 2:54 left in the quarter. Hendricks scored his third goal of the quarter before junior Dan Negron tallied a goal with 15 seconds left in the quarter to trim the lead back down to one after the opening quarter.

Bradbury's goal on a feed from junior Ian Zumpano kept the deficit at one with 9:18 left in the half before the Tigers scored the last two goals of the second quarter from Luke Pilcher and Axel Sanderson to take a 9-6 lead into halftime.

RIT exploded for six straight goals coming out of the half as three goals from Bell and a goal apiece from Kaden Brunson, Hendricks and Allison pushed the RIT lead up to 15-6. Freshmen Liam McGuire and Baker Morton scored back-to-back for the Brewers to cut the lead to 15-8 with 1:19 remaining before Pilcher closed the quarter with a tally with five seconds remaining.

Ethan Harkins scored the first goal of the fourth for RIT before junior Solomon Hess took one coast-to-coast for a goal at the 3:51 mark. Ian Dinga scored at the 3:00 mark for the Tigers before Zumpano tallied his first goal of the game at the 2:13 mark on the man-up for Vassar.

Bradbury led Vassar with two goals while eight other Brewers recorded a goal on the contest. Zumpano had a team-high three points while sophomore Holden Anderson picked up a team-high six ground balls. Junior Solomon Hess finished with five ground balls and one caused turnover along with senior Dillon Dierman tallying four caused turnovers. Senior Jack Bagin made 11 saves in goal in the loss and also added five ground balls and one caused turnover.

Bell and Hendricks each had four goals for the Tigers while Pilcher added four points. Taylor Jensen picked up a game-high seven ground balls while Jensen, Tanner Winklemann, Zach Gagnon and Grace each recorded two caused turnovers each. Gagnon also tallied four ground balls while four Tigers had three ground balls. Will Sterrett took the win in goal and made nine saves and picked up four ground balls.

Vassar will complete its homestand on Tuesday afternoon as they play host to Stockton at 4:30 p.m. on Gordon Field.
