MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Vassar College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams began the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field season on Friday as the Brewers competed in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational that included Division I, II and III teams.
The day began with the women's 1 mile open event as freshman Nora Goldberg-Courtney finished sixth overall in a time of 5:48.56 and was the top Division III finisher. In the men's race, senior
Doug Cobb recorded a 20th place finish with a time of 5:04.93.
Next up was the women's 100m hurdles qualifying round as junior Nora Jensen finished 14th in 16.95, freshman Lila Miller scored a 23rd place finish in 18.13 and rookie Freja Niklasson crossed the line next in 24th in 18.17. Sophomore
Jae Young Seo was ninth overall in the 110m hurdles qualifying round in 16.77 while sophomore
Max Bergman tallied a 16th place finish in a time of 19.23.
In the women's 400 meters open, junior Laura Wong tallied a 17th place finish in 1:05.99 for the Brewers. The men's race was led by junior
Tim Jacques who finished fourth overall in a time of 52.19 along with classmate
Sam Lytel finishing 10th overall with a time of 53.84.
Five Brewers competed in the women's 100m qualifying round as sophomore Traci Francis was the top finisher in 11th overall in 12.45. Junior Ava Novak was 31st in 12.78, freshman Sydney Passley-Harris finished 54th in 13.10, senior Malinda Smith crossed the finish line in 59th with a time of 13.41 and sophomore Lily Falkowski was 70th overall in 14.21. Darnell Worley was the top finisher in 38th overall while sophomore
Jeremy Frank crossed the line in 52nd in 11.63 and freshman
Jacob Sellitti scored a 65th overall finish with a time of 11.90.
Sophomore Sophia Henderson finished 8th overall in the women's 800-meters with a heat-best time 2:33.62 for Vassar. Freshman Margaret McLaughlin scored a 17th place finish in 2:38.69 followed by Goldberg-Courtney finishing 24th in 2:43.59 and sophomore Jordan Norman in 29th with a time of 2:48.04.
Freshman Jahmilia Dennis raced in the women's 100m prelims and finished 17th overall as the second highest Division III finisher with a new school record time of 15.60.
In the women's 4x200 relay, the 'A' relay of Smith, Novak, Dennis and Francis finished 17th in 1:50.13 while the 'B' relay of Eu, Passley-Harris, Niklasson and Jensen finished in 21st with a time of 1:53.19. In the men's race, the quartet of Seo, Bergman, Worley and Sellitti crossed the line in 21st with a time of 1:38.16.
The women's 4x800 relay group of Henderson, senior Ava Waters, Norman and Goldberg-Courtney tallied an eighth place finish in a time of 10:46.40.
Senior Augusta Stockman turned in a fourth place finish (top Division III finisher) in the women's 5000-meters with a time of 18:20.19 along with sophomore Sophie Farr adding a 16th place finish with a time of 20:29.94. In the men's race, sophomore
Jackson Bernreuter crossed the finish line in 40th position with a time of 17:59.88.
In the field events, junior Heather Kwafo scored a 10th place finish in the women's long jump with mark of 5.16m while Passley-Harris was 33rd with a mark of 4.83m. Rookie Jamie Eu posted a mark of 4.57m and Smith recorded a mark of 4.53m. In the men's event, Bergman tallied a 24th place finish at 6.15m.
Bergman also competed in the men's javelin throw as he finished in 33rd overall with a mark of 38.30 meters.
Vassar will return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
