NEWPORT BEACH, C.A. - The Vassar College Men's Tennis team finished its West Coast swing on Saturday with a strong 5-4 victory over nationally ranked #17 Chapman. The Brewers improve to 6-3 overall while the Panthers fall to 4-1 overall.
Rookie duo
Fernando Bauermeister and
Nolan Kubiak started the day with a doubles victory for Vassar as they defeated Caleb Wilkins and Mac Caldwell 8-4 at the top flight. Sophomore
James Balon and
Ethan Mantell won at two over Ben Jorgenson and Josh Blinder 8-3 while Jack Alexander and Kameron DeHart earned a 8-3 victory against freshman pair
Pedro Cattaruzzi and
Sigmund Winiecki at three.
Wilkins began singles action with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bauermeister at the top flight followed by Danny Marsh winning 6-2, 6-0 at six over Winiecki. Mantell earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Blinder at fourth singles while Kubiak tallied a comeback win over Andy Hess 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at three. Four saw Tommy Hays triumph 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 over Balon before junior
Benjamin Almquist clinched the victory for Vassar with hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2 win at second singles over DeHart.
Vassar will return to action against the United States Coast Guard Academy on March 25th at the Josselyn Tennis Courts.
