Olds and Zumpano Each Score Four Times to Lead Men's Lacrosse Over Keene State

Both record five points, Santise tallies seven points

KEENE, N.H. - Senior Riley Olds and junior Ian Zumpano each scored four goals on the night as the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team recorded a 15-9 road victory over Keene State on Wednesday. The Brewers improve to 2-1 overall on the season while the Owls fall to 0-3.

The Brewers opened up the scoring as Olds fired one past the goalkeeper at the 11:49 mark for his sixth goal of the season before the Owls responded with its first goal of the day on Connor Woods' goal on a pass from Michael Sheridan with 6:54 left in the opening quarter. Zumpano's goal on a feed from Olds put Vassar ahead 43 seconds later followed by Andrew Miller scoring for Keene State at the 5:16 mark to tie it up again quickly.

After Olds tallied his second goal of the game, Cooper Cioffi scored back-to-back goals just seconds apart to go ahead 4-3 with just under two minutes to play in the quarter. The Brewers answered with two goals to close the quarter from freshman Anderson Eads and junior Troy Santise to hold a 5-4 advantage after the opening 15 minutes of action.

Vassar rattled off four straight goals to open the second period as freshman Baker Morton scored twice, Zumpano tallied a goal and Santise scored once and assisting on two goals. Olds tallied back-to-back goals with one coming on the man-up to push the Brewers lead to 11-4 with 4:29 left in the first half. Keene State ended the quarter with Nathan Sickles scoring on the man-up and Wood scoring with 10 seconds left to cut the Vassar lead to 11-6 at the half.

The Brewers lead grew back to eight as Zumpano and sophomore Shane O'Hara both tallied goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter. The Owls answered with a goal from Sebastian Foresi at the 7:26 mark to cut the lead to seven after three quarters.

Nathan Sickles' second goal of the contest reduced the Vassar lead down to five with 7:37 left before Zumpano tallied his fourth goal of the night on Santise's fifth assist at the 3:44 mark. The Owls' Jeff Wiedenfeld tallied a goal with just over two minutes left before freshman Jordan Roesch scored his first collegiate goal in the final minute of the contest to record a 15-9 road victory.

Olds and Zumpano each tallied four goals and one assist while Santise finished the night with a game-high seven points. Morton scored two goals while Roesch, O'Hara and Eads each recorded of goal of their own. Junior Solomon Hess had a game-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers while sophomore Holden Anderson picked up five ground balls. Senior Jack Bagin earned the win in goal as he made five saves in the contest and picked up three ground balls.

Sickles, Cioffi and Woods each scored twice for the Owls as Cioffi and Woods had team-highs in points with three. Colby Quiet recorded a team-high six ground balls and Colby Cala picked up four ground balls. Hunter Tavares and Haeden Finerty each had two caused turnovers. Charlie Giuliotti made 12 saves in goal for Keene State.

The Brewers will return to Poughkeepsie on Saturday for a matchup with Lasell University in its Williams Syndrome Association Game. Face-off with the Lasers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
