Men's Basketball Falls To Hobart

Rothenberg tallies game-high 22 points for the Brewers

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Jackson Meshanic finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds for Hobart as the Statesmen earned a road victory over the Vassar College Men's Basketball team 57-49 on Friday night. Hobart improved to 15-9 overall and 11-6 in Liberty League play while the Brewers dropped to 13-11 and 9-8 in conference action.

Following a defensive battle in the first half that left the Statesmen with a 20-14 lead, Vassar began the second half on a 8-0 run with two buckets coming from senior Jack Rothenberg along with a layup each from seniors Kevin McAuliffe and Ethan Ellis put the Brewers ahead 22-20. The Statsmen responded with a 14-2 run of their own and took a 10 point lead on a free throw from Aidan Rodgers at the 12:00 mark.

The Brewers cut the lead down to four with 6:19 remaining as senior Zev Katz converted a three-point play but a lay-in from J. Meshanic and a triple from Andrew Lynch expanded the lead to nine with five and a half minutes left. A triple from McAuliffe at the 1:10 mark reduced the advantage back down to 51-45 but six made free throws in the final minute clinched the road victory for the Statesmen.

Rothenberg finished with 22 points, on 6-for-11 shooting, nine rebounds and three assists for the Brewers while Katz, sophomore Luke Adams and senior Avni Mustafaj each added six points. Junior Logan Scott chipped in a team-high two steals while Mustafaj also handed out three assists.

J. Meshanic secured his double-double with 21 points and 16 boards while Lynch knocked down five three-pointers for 15 points and added three steals. Patrick Walker finished with nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks along with Rodgers scoring six points, handing out five assists and added one steal.

Vassar shot 33.3-percent overall and knocked down four triples while Hobart shot 36.4-percent from the field and converted on seven three-pointers. The Brewers outscored the Statesmen by five at the free throw line while Vassar also held the edge in points off turnovers at 12-7.

The Brewers will play host to Ithaca on Senior Day tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the AFC Gymnasium in the regular season finale.
