Men's Basketball Drops Senior Day Contest to Ithaca

Rothenberg finishes with 14 points to lead Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Men's Basketball team celebrated its 10 seniors on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers fell 74-56 to Ithaca at the AFC Gymnasium. Senior Jack Rothenberg recorded a double-double for Vassar as the Brewers fall to 13-12 overall and 9-9 in Liberty League action while Ithaca improved to 18-7 and 14-4 in conference contests.

The Bombers jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the first five minutes as Luka Radovich and Logan Wendell combined for the first nine points. Vassar responded with a 11-3 run to take a two-point advantage at the 11:25 mark on a triple from senior Ethan Ellis.

The Brewers expanded its lead to five with just under ten minutes to go in the half on a jumper from sophomore Luke Adams. A three-pointer from Liam Spellman tied the game up at 21 apiece at the 7:10 mark before the Bombers took a three point lead on a bucket from Radovich. Following a lay-in from Rothenberg to cut the lead down to 26-25, Ithaca scored the final nine points of the first half to take a 10 point lead at halftime on a putback from Triston Wennersten.

Ithaca's lead in the second half grew to 44-20 on a bucket from Wendell with 16:17 to go and it grew to 50-32 on two free throws from Wendell with 13:15 remaining in the game. Two free throws from senior Avni Mustafaj reduced the lead to 14 with just under 11 minutes remaining before the Ithaca advantage grew back to 18 on a basket from George Sikoryak III with 7:35 left. A three-point play from Rothenberg at the 6:40 mark cut the lead down to 13 but another bucket from Wendell at the 1:44 mark got the Bombers lead to a game-high 21 points.

Rothenberg finished the contest with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his double-double while Eliis tallied 11 points and three boards. Mustafaj finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists while Adams finished with four points, two rebounds and an assist for Vassar.

The Bombers were led by Radovich who tallied 23 points and eight rebounds while Wendell tallied 15 points and seven boards. Sikoryak III chipped in 13 points and two assists along with Spellman knocking down four triples for his 12 points. Skylar Sinon had an all-around day with four points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Vassar finished shooting 32.2-percent on the day with seven three-pointers while the Bombers finished at 48.3-percent and canned six triples. The two teams were even on points off turnovers with 11 while Ithaca held the edge in points in the paint at 44-18.

The Brewers have earned the six seed in the Liberty League Championship and will travel to third-seeded Hobart on Tuesday evening. Ithaca will get a first-round bye as the top overall seed and will await the winner of the 4/5 matchup
