POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a clean sweep for the Vassar men's tennis team, defeating RIT in straight sets for a 9-0 Liberty League win on Saturday morning. The Brewers move to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in league action, while the Tigers are now 0-2 and 0-1 in conference contests.
Doubles action saw the third flight duo of junior
Benjamin Almquist and freshman
Sigmund Winiecki earning a win by default. Next, the first flight pair of freshmen
Fernando Bauermeister and
Nolan Kubiak bested Joel Pro and Brennan Bull 8-2 for the 2-0 advantage, before the Brewers completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at three as sophomore
Arnav Agostinho and freshman
Pedro Cattaruzzi bested Grahith Mowa and Verosh Jayanetti.
Singles action saw Vassar move to 4-0 on the scoreboard as Cattaruzzi won by default at six. At one, Bauermeister defeated Mowa 6-0, 6-0 followed by Kubiak winning at three as he posted a 6-0, 6-2 to seal the match victory with the fifth point.
Rookie
Ethan Mantell earned the win at five, defeating Jayanetti by a 6-1, 6-0 margin, while four was a 6-0, 6-1 victory for Vassar sophomore
James Balon. Almquist went on to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bull at two, to close out the 9-0 match victory.
Vassar returns to the courts on Friday, February 17th when they welcome the University of Rochester to Walker Field House. The match with the Yellowjackets is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
