POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - It was a clean sweep for the Vassar men's tennis team for the second straight match, defeating the University of Rochester for a 9-0 victory on Friday evening. The Brewers move to 2-0 overall while the Yellowjackets fall to 1-1.
Doubles action saw the third flight duo of junior
Benjamin Almquist and freshman
Sigmund Winiecki earning an 8-3 win over Kenneth lee and Kei Ogawa. Next, the second flight pair of sophomore
Arnav Agostinho and freshman
Pedro Cattaruzzi bested Krish Vennam and Kavin Shukla 8-5 for the 2-0 advantage, before the Brewers completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win as freshmen
Fernando Bauermeister and
Nolan Kubiak defeated Kai Yuminaga and Rahul Ravi.
Singles action saw Vassar move to 4-0 on the scoreboard as rookie
Ethan Mantell earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Surya Rajamani at six. At one, Bauermeister tallied a hard-fought 6-0, 5-7, 10-3 win over Yuminaga followed by Kubiak winning at three as he posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Shukla to seal the match victory with the fifth point.
Sophomore
James Balon earned the win at five, defeating Ogawa by a 6-0, 6-1 margin, while four was a 6-2, 6-2 victory for Agostinho over Ravi. Almquist went on to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Vennam at two, to close out the 9-0 match victory.
Vassar returns to the courts tomorrow morning when they play host to Bard at Walker Field House. The match with the Yellowjackets is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
