POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Men's Basketball team battled tough at home on Tuesday evening as the Brewers fell 82-75 to #7 Williams in non-conference action. Junior
Luke Adams led the team with a game-high 22 points as Vassar falls to 2-1 overall while the Ephs improve to 2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- FIRST HALF
- A triple from Adams and a lay-in from sophomore Sacha Greenberg put the Brewers up 5-2 early before Williams scored eight straight points on five points from Cole Prowitt-Smith and a triple from Brandon Roughley.
- Vassar drew even at the 13:48 mark on a three-pointer from first year Avery Lee and took a two-point lead on a bucket from Adams with 11:56 left in the opening half.
- The two teams traded leads in the midway part of the first half as the Ephs pushed ahead by nine at the 2:51 mark on a jumper from Alex Lee.
- Five straight points from Lee extended the Ephs lead to 14 points with 1:24 left before holding a 41-27 lead at the break following two free throws from Prowitt-Smith.
- Williams shot 46.7-percent from the field in the first half and converted on seven three-pointers along with converting six free throws,
- Vassar was held to 36.7-percent overall and made just three triples in the first 20 minutes of action.
- SECOND HALF
- Vassar cut the lead down to nine points with 17:15 left in the second half on a triple from first year Shea Fitzgerald and cut it to nine again with 14 minutes left on a Lee three-pointer.
- The Brewers got within six points at two different points in the second half as an Adams three and a jumper from senior Case Parsons put the lead at six with 10:09 remaining.
- The Ephs answered with a quick 9-0 run on four points from Evan Glatzer, two from Brandon Arnold and a three from Ben McGraw to take a 64-49 lead with 7:31 left.
- A jumper from first year Eric Zhang trimmed the advantage down to single digits with 2:42 to go before two free throws from Brandon Roughley increased the lead back to 13 with 1:23 remaining.
- Three free throws late from Fitzgerald got Vassar within seven as the Ephs held on for the road victory.
- The Ephs improved to 52.2-percent shooting from the field but were held to only two made three-pointers.Â
- Vassar shot 39.5-percent overall in the second half and converted 8-of-16 from three-point territory.
FOR THE BREWERS
- Adams tallied a game-high 21 points on 8-for-18 from the field and recorded a team-high five assists.
- Parsons scored 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting and Fitzgerald registered 17 points, three assists and three steals.
- Greenberg finished the night with six points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
FOR THE EPHS
- Lee converted 19 points on 8-for-12 from the field along with seven rebounds and Prowitt-Smith tallied 18 points.
- Roughley scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds while Karren recorded nine points, six boards and two blocks.
- Glatzer finished an all-around night with four points, four assists, five rebounds and two steals.
GAME STATS
- Williams finished the night shooting 49.1-percent overall and 9-for-25 from three point range while converting 21-for-22 in free throws.
- Vassar shot 38.2-percent on the night and was 11-for-30 from bonus distance while going 12-for-15 from the free throw line.
- The Brewers held a 16-6 edge in points off turnovers and had a 23-7 advantage in second chance points.
- Williams had a slim 28-24 edge in points in the paint.

- Vassar will play in the Hudson Valley Tournament this weekend when facing off with New Paltz on Friday and Mount Saint Mary on Saturday.
- Williams will host the Purple and Gold Classic against Worcester State on Friday and then play again against an opponent TBD on Saturday.
