Fiske’s Late Tally Earns Vassar Draw At Hobart

Berry, Fiske tally for the Brewers

Geneva, NY – Danny Berry (Haskell, NJ) scored late in the first half and Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) tallied with just under 10 minutes left in regulation time as the Vassar College Men's Soccer team took to the road and came away with a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at Hobart.
 
Saturday's draw is the Brewers' third in the last four outings and moves them to 5-3-4 overall and 1-1-2 in Liberty League play. Hobart now stands at 5-4-2 and an unbeaten 4-0-1 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Berry broke through for the Brewers with 95 seconds left before the break with his second goal of the season. He headed home a corner kick started by Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) at the 43:25 mark of the contest to give the Brewers a one goal advantage.
  • Hobart finished the opening period with a 9-5 advantage in shots, but was unable to put an attempt on goal before halftime.
  • The Statesmen controlled corner kicks in the first half, taking seven of the eight in the opening stanza.
  • Hobart came out of halftime and quickly knotted the score at 1-1 when Frederick Madsen finished off an assist from Keegan Mulroony at 48:17.
  • The game remained deadlocked at a goal apiece until the 76th minute when Brian Sheehan put the Statesmen up a goal off a feed from Luke Ryan at 75:50.
  • Chasing a goal late in regulation time, the Brewers drew even in the 81st minute when Fiske found the back of the net for the fifth time in 2023. He headed home a loose ball off another corner kick to even the game at 2-2 with 9:53 left to play.
  • Hobart missed on two attempts after the Fiske goal and Vassar's Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) had a shot denied with 11 seconds left to play.
  • Second half shots were even at 7-7.
  • Corner kicks were also square at 2-2 in the second half.
  • Hobart goalkeeper Guillermo Castaneda Chang made five saves in the second half to earn the draw for Hobart.
 
For The Brewers
  • Berry scored for the second straight game and moved his season point total to six.
  • Fiske scored for the first time since September 20 at Drew and stands second on the team with five markers. Fiske led the team with three shots, all on goal.
  • Fauth picked up his team leading sixth assist of the year and leads the team in points with 18.
  • Nine different Brewers finished the game with a shot with seven putting a shot on goal.
  • Vasilis Ganasoulis (Glen Head, NY) stopped one shot in the game for Vassar.
 
For The Statesmen
  • Madsen scored for the first time in 2023 with Hobart's opening goal.
  • Sheehan scored for the second time this season, moving into a five-way tie for the team lead in tallies.
  • Mulroony assisted on his first goal of the year.
  • Ryan picked up his first assist of the season.
  • Steven Pickering led the team with three shots in the game.
  • Castaneda Chang was busy in goal, stopping seven shots for Hobart.
 
Match Statistics
  • Hobart posted a 16-12 advantage in overall shots, while Vassar held a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Statesmen 9-3.
