Vassar Takes Non-Conference Finale At Russell Sage

Namba, Rodriguez net goals in win

Albany, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team rounded out the non-conference schedule Wednesday night with a come-from-behind 2-1 road win at Russell Sage. Noelle Namba (San Fransico, CA) and Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) produced the goals for the Brewers in the contest.
 
Vassar improves to 7-2-2 overall on the season with the win and moves to 17-2-1 all-time against the Gators. Russell Sage slips to 5-2-2 overall on the season and has a seven-match unbeaten streak stopped.
 
How It Happened
  • The Gators opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Courtney Bush headed in a corner kick started by Jaclyn Benedetti at the 22:14 mark of the match.
  • A tightly contested first half featured just five shots, with the Gators holding a 3-2 edge in attempts before halftime.
  • Corner kicks in the opening frame were even at 2-2.
  • Vassar came out of the break and quickly knotted the score at 1-1 when Namba scored just under four minutes into the second half. She converted a shot from the top of the box at 48:45 to level the score in the game.
  • The eventual game winner came in the 65th minute when Rodirguez put the Brewers in front for good with a conversion from the corner of the box at 64:11.
  • The Brewers dominated the second half, finishing with an 11-2 advantage in shots.
  • Second half corner kicks also went to Vassar by a 2-1 margin.
  • The Gators went without a shot following the Rodrguez tally and took their only corner kick of the half with just over three minutes left to play.
 
For The Brewers
  • Namba found the scoring column for the second time in 2023 and for the second straight contest.
  • Rodriguez also scored for the second time this season and picked up her first points of the season since posting two assists against Western Connecticut on September 13. The game winning goal was the first of the season for Rodriguez.
  • Namba and Olivia Lavelle (Scottsdale, AZ) each led the team with three shots.
  • Gigi Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) finished the tilt with a pair of attempts for the Brewers.
  • Making her seconds straight start in goal, Bella Stevens (Ann Arbor, MI) earned the win with a pair of saves in the game.
 
For The Gators
  • Bush tallied for the second time on the season and was one of five different Gators with a shot in the game.
  • Benedetti assisted on her second goal of the season.
  • Kierstin Lynch stopped four Vassar shots in goal in the loss.
 
Match Statistics
  • Vassar finished with a 13-5 advantage in overall shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a slim 4-3 margin.
