Brewers Battle To Draw With #7 Middlebury

Keker, Berry score second half goals

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit twice in the second half on Tuesday and closed out non-conference play with a 2-2 draw with #7 Middlebury. Duncan Keker (Oakland, CA) and Danny Berry (Haskell, NJ) supplied the goals for the Brewers.
 
Tuesday's draw moves Vassar to 5-3-3 overall on the season, while Middlebury remains unbeaten on the season at 6-0-3.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar fell behind early in the contest following an own goal 13:00 into the contest. Jordan Saint-Louis fed a crossing pass through the box on the right wing that was deflected in to give the visitors the early advantage.
  • The Brewers came right back with an Owen Fauth (Keene, NH) attempt that was turned aside and Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) had an attempt from the top of the box that sailed high in the 21st minute.
  • Middlebury finished the opening stanza with a 4-2 advantage in shots.
  • Corner kicks in the first half were even at 2-2.
  • Vasilis Ganasoulis (Glen Head, NY) closed the first period with a pair of saves for the Brewers.
  • Middlebury maintained the one goal advantage until the 59th minute when the Brewers got the game even on a corner kick.
  • Fauth started the corner and Keker headed in his sixth goal of the year at 58:38 to even the score at 1-1.
  • Middlebury regained a one-goal lead just under 20 minutes later when Alem Hadzic and Saint Louis executed a two-on-one that resulted in Hadzic's second tally of the season at 78:23.
  • Trailing by a goal for the second time, the Brewers struck again off a corner kick with just under four minutes left to play to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Fauth again started the scoring play with Berry on the finishing end with his first goal of the season at the 86:23 mark of the contest.
  • Following the Berry tally, Kinlay Watkins (Berkeley, CA) fired a shot just over the bar coming off the kick-off.
  • Vassar finished the second half with a 9-6 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers took three of the five second half corner kicks.
For The Brewers
  • Keker scored for the second straight game and moved into a tie for the team lead in markers with six. Keker led the team with three shots, putting two on goal.
  • Berry found the scoring column for the first time in 2023 and pushed his season point total to four.
  • Fauth assisted on both goals for the Brewers, collecting his fourth and fifth helpers of the season and moving his team-high point total to 17.
  • Berry, Fauth, Fiske and Watkins each finished with two shots in the contest.
  • Ganasoulis closed out the draw with a trio of saves for Vassar.
 
For The Panthers
  • Hadzic scored his second goal of the season and finished with two shots.
  • Saint-Louis picked up his team leading sixth assist of the season.
  • Will Sawin led the team with three shots.
  • Ryan Grady closed the day with four saves in goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • Vassar finished with the edge in overall shots, 11-10, and shots on goal, 6-4.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers, 5-4.
  • Fouls in the contest were even at 11-11.
