POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The fifth-ranked Vassar College Men's Volleyball team cruised to two 3-0 victories in its home opener on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers defeated SUNY Potsdam 25-8, 25-12 and 25-14 and then winning 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 in the nightcap against #RV St. Joseph's Long Island. Vassar improves to 3-1 overall following the tri-match while the Bears fell to 1-5 and the Golden Eagles moved to 2-4 overall.

VC raced out to an early 11-2 advantage in the first set against the Bears as junior
Andrew Guaragno buried two kills, senior
Andrew Kim tallied two service aces and senior
Adam Gulick recorded a kill and an ace. The Brewers then scored 10 straight points to improve the lead to 21-3 with freshman
Tristan Christofferson tallying a solo block and two block assists while A. Kim registered two winners. Guaragno put the first set away with a winner on an assist from junior
Jacob Kim to take the first set 25-8.
Following an early 4-3 Vassar start to the second set, the Brewers expanded its lead to 13-3 on two kills from Christofferson, two kills from sophomore
Billy Fan and a winner from junior
Vaughn Ramsey. The Bears trimmed the lead down to 22-12 following a double block from Zaire Rogers and Duncan Tenhagn but VC closed the set with the final three points and Guaragno buried the winner to take a 25-12 second set victory.
Once again, VC stormed out to a 7-1 lead on three kills from Ramsey along with kills from Fan and Christofferson. The Bears cut the lead back to 9-5 on a block from Cooper Colesante and Jason Hendler before a block from Christofferson and Ramsey pushed the lead to seven at 16-9. Vassar finished the set on a 5-1 run with two kills from sophomore
Payne Lounsbery and a kill apiece from Ramsey and senior
Jordan Klembczyk to earn the three set victory.
Ramsey led the way with 11 kills for Vassar and added an ace and a block. Guaragno, Fan and Lounsbery each added six kills while Fan had two service aces. Christofferson recorded four kills and six blocks while J. Kim handed out 17 assists and junior
AJ Erickson added 15 assists. Senior
Jorge Adames Reyes lifted a team-high six digs for the Brewers.
Tenhagen tallied a team-high six kills and added a block for SUNY Potsdam. Colesante handed out nine assists while notching a service ace, two blocks and two digs. Rogers recorded three blocks and three digs while Tom Shemik added three digs.

After a back-and-forth beginning to the opening set, the Brewers rattled off six straight points with sophomore
Gavin Akoto tallying a service ace along with kills from Christofferson and Gulick to take a 11-4 lead. Back-to-back kills from Guaragno extended its lead to 15-6 before a Mark Williams ace trimmed the lead down to six. Following a kill from A. Kim to go up 20-13, two kills from Tyler Anderson cut the lead to 21-15 for the Golden Eagles. Christofferson buried two kills along with a winner apiece from Gulick and A. Kim to give VC a 25-17 first set win.
The two teams traded winners in the opening moments of the second set as an Anderson kill put the Golden Eagles within one point at 12-11. J. Kim and Christofferson then combined for two straight blocks for Vassar and a kill from A. Kim put the Brewers ahead 16-11. Two kills from Gulick along with one from A. Kim and one from Guaragno tallied the final four points of the set for the Brewers as they took a 25-19 set victory.
The Golden Eagles took a 7-6 lead in the third set on a winner from CJ Johnson but the Brewers went on a 11-3 scoring run as A. Kim's service ace put them up 17-9. St. Joseph's Long Island got within 21-14 on a VC service error but kills from A. Kim and J. Kim along with a double block from A. Kim and Christofferson got the Brewers to match point. A. Kim earned the winning kill to give Vassar a 25-16 third set victory and a 3-0 match win.
Gulick led three players with double digit kills as he finished with 13 while adding two blocks and four digs. Guaragno tallied 12 kills and three digs while A. Kim buried 11 winners along with two aces, four assists, two blocks and four digs. Christofferson added four kills and six blocks with J. Kim having a game-high 32 assists, game-high eight digs and four blocks. Adames Reyes added seven digs for the Brewers.
Anderson had a team-high eight kills for the Golden Eagles and added an ace, two blocks and three digs. Williams finished with five kills, three digs and an ace along with MacPherson chipping in four kills, six digs and an ace. Johnson handed out a team-high 19 assists and had one block.
Vassar will return to the floor next weekend in a home tri-match against Misericordia and Lasell. The contest with the Cougars is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. while the matchup with the Lasers is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Kenyon Hall
