No. 19 Field Hockey Posts Third Shutout of the Season Against Wolves

Llamas posts a four point night for the Brewers

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The No.19 Vassar Field Hockey team pushed its season opening win streak to four games on Wednesday evening as the Brewers blanked Western Connecticut State 5-0. Sophomore Leilani Llamas (Grapevine, TX) had a four point night while senior Ella Pearl (San Francisco, CA) scored two goals for Vassar.

The Brewers offense started early in the first quarter when Pearl knocked her first goal of the night in the back of the net on a feed from Llamas at the 5:39 mark. After a shot from junior Jaclyn Narleski (Basking Ridge, NJ) was denied by Wolves defender Samantha Dultz, junior Maggie Werner (Berkeley, CA) buried the rebound for her second goal of the season just halfway into the first quarter. Vassar pushed its lead to three when sophomore Max Meijaard (Heemstede, The Netherlands) scored her second goal of the campaign on a pass from Llamas.

Vassar got on the board for the fourth time late in the third quarter when Pearl knocked in her second goal of the night on an assist from junior Kelsey O'Connell (Chapel Hill, NC) off a penalty corner. The final goal for the Brewers on the evening was Llamas third and fourth points of the game as she scored on O'Connell's second assists off a penalty corner just over one minute into the fourth quarter.

Junior Sarah Dumaresq (Barnstable, MA) earned her third shutout and fourth victory of the season in goal as she made three saves on the night. Junior Heidi Compton (Clark, NJ) added a defensive save for Vassar. Kayla Hnasko took the loss in goal for the Wolves and made seven saves in the first half. Alyssa Manocchi made two saves in the second half for Western Connecticut State.

The Brewers finished the night with a 20-4 advantage in shots and 15-4 edge in shots on goal. Vassar also held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Vassar now heads on a six game road trip starting with Kean on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's contest in Union, NJ is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
