ONEONTA, NY - Sophomore forward
Madison Bouggess scored in the 70th minute as the Vassar College women's soccer team posted a 1-0 win at Oneonta State on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers move to 3-2-1 with the victory, while the Red Dragons slip to 2-3-0 overall.
After a dominating opening frame, which saw the Brewers hold a 9-0 advantage in shots, Vassar continued to press into the second stanza. Junior midfielder
Justine Tapert sent a shot into the top right corner that was saved by Oneonta keeper Claire Lepper in the 61st minute, followed minutes later by back-to-back shots from sophomore
Noelle Namba that went just wide and one that was once again stopped by Lepper.
Following an Oneonta shot save by VC goalie
Teresa Zimmer, the Brewers finally answered on the scoreboard as Bouggess notched her second tally of 2022 for the 1-0 advantage.
Vassar, which owned an 8-2 shot advantage in the stanze and a 17-2 margin for the game (11-1 on goal), got a late shot on from junior
Ariana Pjetri in the final seconds, but Lepper once again made the stop before time expired.
In goal, Zimmer posted the win, making one save. For Oneonta, Lepper recorded 10 stops.
The Brewers return to action on Tuesday evening, traveling to Wesleyan University for a 7pm game against the Cardinals.
